Employees of First Energy/Monongahela Power
Choose A Voice In their workplace by
Organizing with IBEW Local 2357
The workers at the Gassaway Shop of First Energy/ Monongahela Power have voted for IBEW LOCAL 2357 by a margin of 16 to 7 to be there collective bargaining representative. The entire IBEW welcomes their 24 new brothers into the IBEW Family! The campaigns success is attributed to the hard work of the Volunteer Organizing Committee, IBEW LOCAL 2357 staff Business Manager Willis Morton, and Unit Chair of Webster Springs Dave Cogar.
The campaign started one year ago when IBEW LOCAL 2357 became aware of some interest at the location. Phone calls, mailings, and handing out of flyers ensued over the next eight months. Group meetings began in February and enough cards were obtained to file a petition for an election with the NLRB on March 1, 2012.
There was a NLRB unit clarification hearing held on March 14, 2012, Monongahela Power contested the inclusion of the classification of Distribution Specialist in the election. The Regional Director for the NLRB out of Pittsburg, Pa Robert Chester included the Distribution Specialist classification in his direction of election decision. Monongahela Power asked for a review of the decision to the NLRB Board in Washington, DC which was denied the night before the election on May 2, 2012.
It was a very hard fought campaign by First Energy/ Monongahela Power despite a letter of understanding on organizing campaigns between First Energy and the IBEW.
