Ohio AFL-CIO Joins Forces With Columbus and Dayton Red Cross

 

    Representatives of the Ohio AFL-CIO and the Columbus and Dayton chapters of the Red Cross met recently to review the AFL-CIO Disaster Preparedness and Response Manual. From that meeting it was decide to form a Disaster Committee to look at ways the State Federation can prepare fro disasters in Ohio.

       A Committee was formed consisting of Carl Askew, (Columbus Red Cross) Herman Panstingel, (Dayton Red Cross) Theresa Willis, Michele Laghetto, (United Steelworkers) Dan Scuiry, (Hall of Fame Central Labor Council) and Harry Williamson (Communications Workers of America).

       The Committee met on January 19, 2007 and discussed plans to proceed. It was decided that in order for this program to succeed volunteers would be needed. The committee would like an Local Union who has interested volunteers or a Union Hall that would be available for use during an emergency to contact them and offer their assistance.

       Once a list of interested volunteers and Union Halls are acquired the Committee will contact the volunteers and offer training and information necessary for the use of their Union Hall.
