Ohio AFL-CIO Joins Forces With
Columbus and Dayton Red Cross
Representatives of the
Ohio AFL-CIO and the Columbus and Dayton chapters of the Red Cross met recently
to review the AFL-CIO Disaster Preparedness and Response Manual. From that
meeting it was decide to form a Disaster Committee to look at ways the State
Federation can prepare fro disasters in Ohio.
A Committee was formed
consisting of Carl Askew, (Columbus Red Cross) Herman Panstingel, (Dayton Red
Cross) Theresa Willis, Michele Laghetto, (United Steelworkers) Dan Scuiry, (Hall
of Fame Central Labor Council) and Harry Williamson (Communications Workers of
America).
The Committee met on
January 19, 2007 and discussed plans to proceed. It was decided that in order
for this program to succeed volunteers would be needed. The committee would like
an Local Union who has interested volunteers or a Union Hall that would be
available for use during an emergency to contact them and offer their
assistance.
Once a list of interested
volunteers and Union Halls are acquired the Committee will contact the
volunteers and offer training and information necessary for the use of their
Union Hall.
All interested parties can
contact Theresa Willis, Director of Community Services by e-mail at
