In America today workers have a Right under Federal Law to better
themselves through Unionization at their workplace. The National Labor Relations Act says
in Part:
Section 7 of the Act Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or
assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own
choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective
bargaining or other mutual aid or protection....Section 8 (a) of the ActIt shall be an unfair labor practice for an employer....Section 8 (a) (1) to interfere
with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in section 7
of this Act....
Section 8 (a) (3) by
discrimination in regard to hire or tenure of employment or any term or condition of
employment to encourage or discourage membership in any labor organization....
Just what does the above mean in Plain Language Please ???
What can we do as employees. What is permitted and what is not?Well the NLRB and the US Supreme court has made many rulings on this
subject. the most accepted can be found in a set of rules (enforced by the Courts) that
the National Labor Relations Board has prescribed as follows:
