Exelon CEO: ‘High Honor to Share This Industry With You’
September 20, 2011
Exelon CEO John Rowe addressed delegates, praising the International leadership of the IBEW which represents nearly half of the corporation’s 19,000 workers, most of them working in nuclear power plants.
Rowe championed Exelon’s relationship with business managers of Downers Grove, Ill., Local 15, Springfield, Ill, Local 51, Philadelphia, Pa., Local 614, Reading, Pa., Local 777, Lakewood, N.J. Local 1289, Working together, he said, the parties have relocated workers and negotiated retirement incentives for workers at coal-fired power plants facing closures.
Comparing the costs of different sources of power and outlining the challenges facing the utility industry, Rowe cited the benefits of a new generation of gas-fired power plants that, if built would supply cheaper, more domestically-manufactured power than many renewable technologies which use imported materials. Rowe, who said he is retiring as CEO upon completion of the company’s planned merger with Constellation Energy, asked delegates to help lobby on behalf of the acquisition.
“I have confidence that with a good working relationship,” Rowe said, “the parties will find more opportunities to benefit Exelon, its shareholders, the IBEW and the surrounding communities.”
It’s been a high honor to be part of this industry with you.
