Local Union Spotlight - IBEW Local 611

As one of the largest unions in New Mexico, IBEW plays a heavy role in Labor 2008 activities, particularly with local union mailings and calling their own members to come out and volunteer. IBEW recently released staff to Labor 2008 in Albuquerque.
“I feel motivated to work with the labor movement because I believe in fair working conditions and the necessity to raise the standards of living of the workers I represent and their families,” says Chris Frentzel, Business Manager of IBEW Local 611.
The most important issue in the upcoming election for Chris is to “get Senator Obama elected, and to keep a Congress who will support him. With Barack Obama in the White House, we can make changes to the Supreme Court and the National Labor Relations Board that will mean long term change and improvement in the lives of working families.”
“I saw a statistic that tells it all,” says Morty Simon, IBEW Local 611 and Zone Three co-coodinator. “As Senator, Barack Obama voted with working families 98% of the time, while McCain voted with us 16% of the time. In 2007, Obama supported us 100% of the time, and McCain 0%.”
Ervin Jackson, IBEW Local 387 and President of Nal-Niish CLC, stresses the importance of the Employee Free Choice Act in this election. “We need to make sure that all the candidates are aware of the Employee Free Choice Act and what it means for unions.”
“The most important issue in this election is trust and integrity,” says Ervin. “We’ve lacked trust with the current administration. We need to put integrity back in the White House and working Americans back in the driver’s seat.”
Kudos IBEW!
