The Truth About the Federal Stimulus

Amid the smoke billowing from midterm election ads is the charge that the Obama administration’s federal stimulus failed to address the crisis of joblessness. 

The Building and Construction Trades Department has listed some of the accomplishments achieved through the federal stimulus:

  • Economists estimate:  the bill added 1.6 million to 1.8 million jobs; ultimate impact of 2.5 million.
  • Tax cuts for 95 percent of all working Americans
  • Loans for building more nuclear power plants, the first of which will be built 100 percent union
  • Funding for more than 100,000 projects to upgrade roads, bridges, airports, schools, military bases and much more.
  • $90 billion into clean energy grants through Department of Energy for electrical automobile technology and sun, wind and other forms.
  • Billions of dollars for transmission grid improvements
  • Providing support for developing an expected 30 new battery manufacturing plants, increasing U.S. global share of the market from 1 percent to 20 percent.
