Presidential Emergency Board(PEB) 242 report and recommendations released
Unions' positions upheld in wages and work rules
dispute with Amtrak
Late yesterday afternoon, President Bush released the report and recommendations of Presidential Emergency Board 242. The report, which can be viewed by clicking on the link PEB 242, upholds basically every position the unions set forth in their presentation to the PEB. The recommendations include wage increases equivalent to those of the National Freight Railroad Agreements retroactive to January 1, 2000, retroactive pay, health and welfare premium co-pays similar to those negotiated nationally, and no work rule changes.
We are very pleased with the report of the Board, IBEW President Hill stated. After eight long years, I am hopeful that the recommendations will lead to a fair negotiated agreement for our Amtrak members.
The negotiating coalition that the IBEW is a part of will be meeting today to discuss how to proceed from here. Please continue to visit our webpage for additional updates.
