Avaya Bargaining Update 10 - May 18, 2009

Today the IBEW met with the company in the morning and had a full Unity bargaining session with the CWA in the afternoon.

Avaya rejected IBEW proposals in the morning concerning Chicago allowances, Illinois wage schedule, On Call payments, Moving Expenses and GPS protection. They also modified our proposals on Call-in/Return to Work and Temporary Transfer in lieu of money which are totally unacceptable.

In Unity bargaining Avaya proposed a 3% salary raise over 3 years, suspend company match on the 401k, unpaid mandatory furlough, cap termination payments to 42,000 and rejected the Unions proposals on Successorship and Card Check. Their proposal of cost sharing medical for active and retirees is still on the table.

The company continues to take a hard line on any economic issues. A strike authorization ballot will be mailed shortly. Your bargaining team needs a positive result to be able to make significant gains in Washington.

If you have any questions or concerns about the strike authorization vote please contact Dennis Slaman at dennis.slaman@verizon.net
