July 24, 2001

Business Manager/Financial Secretary Patrick Lavin of Local 47, Diamond Bar, California, was appointed by International President Edwin D. Hill on July 12, 2001 to fill the Seventh District IEC seat left vacant by the appointment of Milt Foster as Chairman.

A Journeyman Lineman, Brother Lavin was originally initiated into Local Union 9 in Chicago in 1969. In 1984, he moved to California and transferred his card to Local 47. He has worked for two municipal utilities and Southern California Edison. Brother Lavin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from Southern California College, a degree he completed in 1995 through a program negotiated in the local's collective bargaining agreement.

Elected as Business Manager of Local 47 in 1999, Brother Lavin has guided the local through the difficulties resulting from California's utility deregulation crisis. He is an active member of the California Coalition of Utility Employees.

Brother Lavin's father was a 35-year member of Local 9. He and his wife Ellen have two daughters and two sons, one of whom is a member of Local 441 in Santa Ana, California.
