Local 103 Leader Honored By Guild

April 2001 IBEW Journal

Charles "Chuck" Monahan, financial secretary of Local 103, Boston, Massachusetts, was honored by the Labor Guild of Boston for his work promoting innovative health, safety and employee-assistance programs. He received the Cushing-Gavin Award at an awards dinner in December.

The annual awards are presented to recipients for excellence in labor relations work, professional competence, moral integrity and community concern. The Labor Guild said Brother Monahans efforts have directly contributed to improved conditions for his brothers and sisters in the electrical contracting industry.

A member of Local 103 for 35 years, Brother Monahan has worked for many years to heighten awareness of workplace safety in the construction industry and beyond. Those efforts have earned recognition with regional and national awards. Brother Monahan also coordinates Employee Assistance Programs for the Massachusetts State Labor Council.

He has also spent more than 20 years in Local 103s leadership, first as recording secretary, later as business agent and today as financial secretary. He is a 1984 graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program.
