Dedicated to Hector Aguirre The new training center was dedicated to our late Bro. Hector Aguirre, who was an apprentice-training instructor and a dedicated, hard working member of Local 40. This training center stands as a beacon to what Bro. Aguirre stood for, a proud American and a supporting member of the IBEW. Michael Courtois, P.S. Linemen Graduate
L.U. 42 (catv,em,govt, lctt,o&rtb), HARTFORD, CTThe Local 42 semi-annual Journeyman Lineman Graduate Awards Banquet was hosted by Local 42 Safety Dir. Norman Hebert and Local 42 Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Peter Abrahamsen. Special guests included Second Dist. Int. Vice Pres. Frank Carroll, Int. Rep. Richard Panagrossi, NEAT Training Dir. Dave Walker, NEAT/Local 42 Sub-Committee member and Local 42 OSHE Trustees Thomas Bednarz, James Henderson and Robert Winoski. Eighteen Local 42 NEAT graduates were each presented with a special wooden plaque, their official NEAT apprenticeship certificate and a gold IBEW logo watch. Peter Abrahamsen, B.M./F.S. Gardner Elected Sister Marjorie Ramirez and her family, the Executive Committee, Bus. Rep. Joe Esmond and the Picnic Committee put on a super local picnic in July that was enjoyed by all! Good job, and thank you. The work picture has not improved much and Oregon and Washington still remain at or near the top of the unemployment percentages in the country. Hopefully many of the pending jobs will start up in the third and fourth quarter of this year. Dave Jacobsen, P.S. Seeking Your Help The Republican controlled Senate and House of Representatives have done all they can under John Engler to destroy the rights of working families. We are again seeking your help. Please be sure that you, your families and friends are registered to vote. Contact your City Clerks office for an application or to confirm you are registered. You can help by working on a candidates campaign, the polls on Election Day, lawn signs, attending candidate rallies and by voting on Election Day. Contact the hall for other ways to help. Jim Deluca, Congratulations, Graduates
L.U. 60 (i), SAN ANTONIO, TXAt this writing, work is still slow but appears to be picking up. The new SBC Center is expected to finish on schedule. Congratulations to the recent graduating apprentices. They are Richard Mendoza, Chris DeLaZerda, Ricardo Segura, Leonard DeBraska, Justin Hummel, Albert Guzman, Christopher Rogers, James Metcalf, George Semanko, Daniel DeLeon, Roger Alonzo, Bryan Dutcher, David Hudgens, J. R. Waddell, Joe Garcia, Juan Romero, Benjamin Miculka, Steven Shephard, Micah Cords, Robert Hogg (Apprentice-of-the-Year), Gregory Groesbeck, Bradley Wachsmuth, Julian "Ronnie" Mattes, Christopher McCort, Brian Wiese and Christopher Adelman. No one has heard of any members who suffered any major damage from the floods that occurred in July. Clean up continues and damage is expected to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Allen Vajdos, P.S. Ongoing STP Negotiations
L.U. 66 (o,t&u), HOUSTON, TXOn June 5, several employee shareholders and I attended the Reliant Energy Annual Shareholders Meeting. The predominant reasons for attending included the South Texas Project (STP) Nuclear Plant negotiations, the demise of company labor relations and the "round-trip" trades disclosed by Reliant Resources. Approximately 100 Local 66 members, along with Harris County AFL-CIO union affiliate members, demonstrated in front of Reliant Energy during the meeting. The STP Nuclear Plant negotiations have been ongoing for more than 20 months. The major stumbling block is the use of nonunion contractors. Labor relations have been set back 27 years to 1976, when the first and only strike lasted 109 days. Reliant Energy has shuffled management, put new personnel in charge and undercut 108 years of mutual respect. Round-trip trades were disclosed in May and involve buying and selling the same amount of energy to inflate trading volumes and revenues during 1999, 2000 and 2001. Greg Lucero, B.M./F.S.
