First-Ever Strike
L.U. 68 (i), DENVER, COOf the approximately 110 inside contractors we work with, only one refused to sign an agreement, and on July 1, 2002, this local was forced to strike. At this writing in late July, Ludvik Electric is still refusing to sign. To date, we have been able to maintain pickets on all jobs and have been successful in getting him removed from at least four jobs.

Help comes in a lot of different forms. Sometimes its water and pop, or lunch being dropped off for picketers. One of my favorites is coming from the fitters, plumbers and tinners on a predominantly union job. The chant "SCABS GO HOME" can be heard for blocks.

This is all new territory for us in our 104-year history, as we have never before been on strike. Thank you to all who have brought water or carried signs. It all helpssolidarity!

Daniel J Curtin, Pres.

James Williams Mourned

Ferebee, R. Alan lamb, Terence W. McPhillips and Todd T. Tyer.

Work is improving and we expect to have an increasing workload in 2003.

We mourn the passing of retired Bus. Mgr. James H. Williams. Bro. Williams represented Local 80 as business manager with devotion and dedication. Bro. Williams was a true trade unionist and those of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with him will surely miss the knowledge and leadership he displayed.

Time to Organize
L.U. 84 (o,t&u), ATLANTA, GAUnion leadership asks constantly how to get members involved in organizing so no one forgets that the privileges and benefits we enjoy can be taken away by corporations, legislators and union busters.

Bus. Mgr. Doyle Howard and outside Organizer Dewey Lovell have attended several construction organizing seminars conducted by International Officers, and have learned some strategies to aid in our efforts. But it will take more than just the involvement of the office staff for us to be successful. If you have any information about a contact at a nonunion location, we need this information. This is a way to get involved without much effort. We come in contact with people who work for a nonunion employer every day, and we can talk to these people. Will you get involved?

Jim Woods, Asst. B.M./P.S.

Thanks, Volunteers

Rendell for Governor
L.U. 98 (as,em,i&it), PHILADELPHIA, PAAll Pennsylvania residents and IBEW members in the tri-state area are urged to vote in the November elections.

We are asking for your help in the Ed Rendell campaign for Pennsylvania governor. While Philadelphia mayor, Ed Rendell helped create hundreds of thousands of jobs for our city and union. As governor, he is sure to do the same for the entire state.

Local 98 hot jobs include the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School at 38th and Walnut Street, where 250 electricians are working diligently around the clock to complete the project before students return to school August 20. The Eagles Stadium steel is close to reaching its "goal" and the Phillies stadium is making its way out of the "basement."

August and September events included annual Down Under party, annual picnic, two nights out with the Phillies and the annual golf outing at Ramblewood Country Club.

Bus. Mgr. John Dougherty received another award from AOH #40 for Man of the Year. Bus. Mgr. Dougherty stresses that Rendell means union jobsget out and vote!
