November 2002 IBEW Journal Mike Welsh, I.R. Bro. Don Hoak has been selected to fill his unexpired term as president. Bro. Hoak has been our vice president and business representative, and we hope all Local 459 members will support Don on his new venture. Support your union. Buy union and North American. If you dont set an example, who will? Attend your district meetings, and be an informed member. Joe Sanna, B.S./F.S. Continuing Education Classes Special thanks to our sponsors and the Golf Committee members for organizing a very successful IBEW Member Guest Golf Tournament in September at the Henry Homberg Golf Course. The BJATC began classes the first week in September, with approximately 160 apprentices. There will also be continuing education classes for journeyman inside wiremen throughout the year. If you are interested, please contact Bro. Danny Prosperie at the JATC. Until next time, remember the "B" in IBEW and God bless the USA. Tony Hollier, P.S. Special Dedications

L.U. 557 (i,rts&spa), SAGINAW, MIAll hands found jobs through the summernot a lot of work, but enough. School renovations helped, but with the state being so deep into red ink, there are few funds available for the work needed to properly teach the upcoming generation. Our organizing continues, identifying jobs, and bringing in new members. A seven-person class recently began its probationary apprenticeship, and experienced people are being sought. Advertising for our hockey teams will soon go into action. The County Event Center is renovated and our hockey ads are in place. The Spirit (Saginaws new OHL team) sold out their opening home gameso hockey is alive again in downtown Saginaw. In this fast-paced construction industry, we are called to push the limits, but job safety must come first. People are getting hurt. We have had minor injuries each month, and we must be more diligent about job safety. Have a safe and good Christmas season, and be sure to attend the Local 557 party at our December meeting. John E. Clemens, P.S.
