ROCKFORD, ILWe recently participated in the Rockford Labor Day
parade. A determined group of Local 364 members and family members
chose to brave the stormy conditions and represent our local by
sloshing through the rain-drenched parade route. Thanks to all
who participated.
We were honored to win first-place in the Labor Day parade float
judging. Congratulations and thanks to all who helped construct
the winning entry. Congratulations also to Patricia Drewelow, wife
of Bro. Jon Drewelow, who was crowned Mrs. Labor Day, and to Brandi
Libby, daughter of Bro. Mike Libby, for representing Local 364
in the Miss Labor Day competition.
The holiday season will soon be upon us. Local 364 wishes our
brothers and sisters and their families throughout our great union
a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Together
in brotherhood, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
Let us work toward a common New Years resolution to make our union
the best it can be.

Graduation Dinner Dance

L.U. 380 (ei,es,i&it), NORRISTOWN, PALocal
380 recently held their annual graduation dinner dance. The graduates
completed a five-year, 10-period apprenticeship program consisting
of 1,000 hours of classroom instruction and 10,000 hours of on-the-job
training. In attendance were invited guests, JATC instructors and
parents, as well as Pennsylvania State Representatives John Lawless
and Robert Godshall. The fifth-year perfect attendance award went
to Christopher Christman. All five years perfect attendance awards
went to Steve M. Galliera and Joseph A. Paul. Second-place overall
achievement went to Christopher Chrisman, and the James Mayall
award winner was Steven M. Galliera. Congratulations!
Organizing newsKen MacDougall reports that after four years and
a lot of hard work we finally signed State Electric, a 100-man
shop headquartered in our area. Thanks to Tim Brown and Lou Baram
for all their time and effort. Thanks also to Third Dist. Int.
Vice Pres. Don Siegel and I.O. Rep. Randy Kieffer for their help.
Our fifth-year apprentices volunteered to install new cabling
to enhance the phone and communication system at the Ockanickon
Scout Reservation, part of the Boy Scouts of America camp system.

Members Appreciation Night

EDMONTON, AB, CANADAOur 74th Anniversary banquet and dance was
held Sept 21 in the unionized Crowne Plaza Hotel. Since this is
when we honor those members who have many years of service, or
contributed to the advancement of the local in some way, the evening
is better known as Members Appreciation Night.
Engraved gold watches were presented to retiring Bros. Herb Coombe,
Glen Gorman, Walter Krywiak, Art Majeau and Ed Passek, while their
spouses received a bouquet of roses.
Well done, gentlemen! Now that youve hung up the tool belts,
the Local 424 Retirees Club will benefit from your years of experience.
Two very special awards were made during this evening. One to 55-year
member John Ramsay and another to 50-year member James Baribeault.
Also receiving service awards were 45-year members Herb Coombe
and George Popal, 40-year members John Last, Ron Lundin, Mike Northcott
and Eugene Rybazok and 35-year members Del Bulman, Ray Carfantan,
Terry Ledingham and Al McConaghy. Space limitations preclude listing
all who received service pins.
Several apprentices were also honored after participating in the
first annual competition for all Alberta apprentices. The competition
was jointly sponsored by our contractors and Local 424 and began
at 9 a.m. the day of the banquet and finished with the competitors
attending the evening awards. Contestants were evaluated on leadership
skills, safety and specific trials for each apprenticeship year.

L.U. 428 (govt,i,o,rts&spa), BAKERSFIELD,
CAAs you know the IO has been trying to negotiate an agreement
with Albertsons Stores to give our union contractors an equal chance
at biding their work, without much success. The IO has asked individual
locals to help by distributing handouts at the various Albertson
stores.
Thanks to our members and apprentices who volunteered to distribute
the handouts. They are Bros. George Howard, Bill Hoffman, Ray French,
Jim Elrod, Herk Beavan, Larry Adams, Keith Groat and Robert Collins,
and apprentices George McKinley, Al Lamoin, Brett Garcia, Fay Plank,
Jim Stone, Chris Stewart, Craig Ziemer, Mike Randele, Robert Lee,
John King and Albert Porter. It is rewarding to see our apprentices
involved in union activities. They are our future.

Another Great Picnic L.U. 440 (i,o,rts&spa), RIVERSIDE, CASeasons
greetings, brothers and sisters. This past September we enjoyed
our annual picnic at Bogart Park. It was nice to see so many members
and their families come out for the event. Special thanks to Shirley
Fromdahl for the great chicken and all the fixings. Also thanks
to Roger Roper and his family, Dan Nicas, Greg Hannon, Rick and
Anita Chaffins, John Wilson, David Pearcy, John Harrison, Chuck
Hughes, John Hicks and all the assistant cooks for the hard work
they and the Local 440 staff did to make this another great picnic.
Congratulations to the horseshoe champions Dennis Steer and Bob
Jackson.
Heartfelt thanks to all the members on the Blythe Energy Project.
All trades showed a newly indentured apprentice what brother-helping-brother
is all about. Unionism is more than just work; it is a strong brotherhood
that looks out for members in all trades, solidarity!
Bro. Nate Conant was our representative at the Western States
Skills Competition this year in Sacramento, CA. The competition
was excellent from all 30 locals. Congratulations to Nate, who
had a strong fifth-place finish. Thank you for representing Local
440.
