L.U. 1245 (catv,em,govt, lctt,o,pet, t&u), WALNUT CREEK, CALocal 1245 mourns the untimely death of Bus. Rep. Jim Lynn, who died at age 50 while attending to union business. Bus. Mgr. Perry Zimmerman praised Bro. Lynn as a business representative possessing "strong technical skills when it came to contract interpretation, grievance resolution, and negotiating." But his skills went far beyond the technical, said Zimmerman. "Jim believed in unions. He cared deeply about our members, and the members knew it." Bro. Lynn used his keen sense of humor and genuine affection for people to good advantage in the workplace, building constructive relationships with management and using those relationships to advance the interests of the members. Initiated into Local 1245 in November 1971, Lynn served as steward and Advisory Council representative before coming on staff as a business representative in 1997. During his service on the union staff, Lynn represented Pacific Gas & Electric members in the Fresno/King Divisions and General Construction. Lynn also represented members at Pacific Gas Transmission. Bro. Lynn will be remembered as a union brother who lifted up those around him by his own sheer delight in living. Eric Wolfe, P.S. Sharpening Our Selling Tools We will sponsor the Brewer Youth Hockey again this year. This is also a great way for kids to enjoy a sport they might not be able to on their own. We wish them luck! Look for our signs at the next hockey game. Unfortunately, there is some bad news. Fourth-year apprentice Mark Higgins father passed away. Express your condolences to him when you see him. Bro. Galen Jones son was in a horrific car accident, but the latest is he is doing better. Third-year apprentice Jason Wilde was notified that his father was severely burned at his home. Hang in there, Jay. Also, check on Tom Staples as he is recuperating from surgery. There is a lot of training going on in our local, so please contact the JATC for class information. We need to give our contractors all the selling tools we can. Chris Trider, P.S.

Edward D. Sparks, Jr., F.S. Sacrificing for Our Security These dedicated employees have worked long hours and have spent much time away from their family and friends. That is why they need your support! I for one am proud of my union brothers and sisters. Not only would I like to take the time to thank them, but their families as well, for all the sacrifices they have made in the past 14 months. If anyone knows the officers at either location, I ask you to please thank them. They are doing this for you, the public. Brad N. Goetz, B.M./Pres.
