Bill Roussan Retires

From left, Local 265, Lincoln, NE, Organizers
Glen Isaacs and Bill Roussan.

L.U. 265 (i,mt,rts,&spa), LINCOLN, NELocal 265 extends best wishes to Bro. Bill Roussan on his retirement effective March 31, 2003. Bill was initiated into Local 265 in October 1967, and was appointed organizer in November 1995. Bill has done an outstanding job as organizer, just as he was outstanding as a journeyman or a foreman. For those of you who know Bill, you know that he is truly a unique individual and will be hard to replace.

His retirement plans include spending time on his "ranch," training and showing hunting dogs, training horses, refurbishing saddles, tack and horse-drawn equipment. His wife Kathy might even find something for him to do. Im sure that he will also find time to swap stories over a few chilled beverages. A retirement party has been planned in appreciation of Bills many accomplishments and contributions.

Bro. Glen Isaacs has been appointed as organizer to fill the vacancy left by Bills retirement. Please wish him luck.

Presidential Library Underway

L.U. 295 (em,i,o,rtb, rts, spa&u), LITTLE ROCK, ARBecause of the sluggish economy created by the Bush administration, work remains slow.

The Clinton Presidential Library is well under way and should hire some in the months ahead. However, this project alone will not be our saving grace. We are in desperate need of an aggressive contractor to bid on new contracts in this area. Most of our small contractors are staying busy but are doing very little hiring.

Bus. Mgr. Dan McAlister, Arkansas AFL-CIO Pres. Alan Hughes and myself would like to thank the volunteers who installed the new lights at the state AFL-CIO office. They are Randy Corzine, Doug McAlister, Gary Rimmer, Kyle Rimmer, Johnny Rimmer, David Stephens and Brent Watson.

Bobby Thornton,
Asst. B.M/Org.

Apprentices Donate Work

Local 313, Wilmington,
DE, fifth-year appren-
tice Brian Petka helped
on the community
project to renovate an
old school house.

L.U. 313 (i&spa), WILMINGTON, DEOur fifth-year apprentice class was among the volunteers involved in a community project to rebuild an old school house. When finished, the building will serve as a community center for local teens. In addition to an article in the local newspaper, the IBEW was credited in a resolution that was introduced at a New Castle County Council meeting.

Special thanks to JATC Training Dir. Al Bradbury, JATC Instructor Larry Wolfe, Asst. Bus. Mgr. Steve Horgan and apprentices Frank Carr, Tom Dorak, Harvey Faulkner, Craig Graham, Floyd Hall, Jeffrey Irwin, Charles Liskey, Chris McClafferty, Dan News, Brian Petka, Neil Reilly, Fran Ward, Alden Wehde and Joe Zalewski. These brothers help to set an example of how we can promote our organization.

Congratulations to Bro. Jake Good on his appointment to the state Board of Electrical Examiners. Bro. Good will serve a three-year term and will join Bro. Don King, who is in his second term and currently serves as chairman.

Legislative Conference

Local 317, Huntington, WV, Bro.
Brian Preston, fourth-year shop
instructor, working with students
on new motor control boards.

L.U. 317 (i,o,rts,t&u), HUNTINGTON, WVWork is still going strong, but is expected to start slowing down.

The apprenticeship building is finished and the new welding shop should be finished soon.

The annual picnic is coming up on June 21 at the Cabell County 4-H Camp.

The credit union spring special on cars and trucks ends May 31. The first scholarships were given out at the annual meeting. There will be two awarded each year to a credit union member who is a qualifying high school senior. The student is eligible for a four-year scholarship if grades are maintained.

Pete Vaughn and Alec Plymale attended the West Virginia Legislative Conference. Labor lost several endorsed candidates in our area and it is starting to hurt us now. One new issue was the use of an average wage to set prevailing wage, but this fortunately looks to be defeated. Workers compensation is once again going to be balanced on the back of the workingman. Pete was appointed co-chair of the Bylaws Committee for the South West District Labor Council.
