September 2003 IBEW Journal L.U. 1701 (catv, ees,i,o&u), OWENSBORO, KYAs reported in the July/August 2003 edition, an electrical licensing law was passed by the Kentucky state legislature. Members received applications and directions for being grandfathered; the deadline is June 24, 2004. Brothers and sisters, please take time to complete the form and send it in before next June 24. If you have any questions contact the hall. We also would like to remind all members and their families to register and vote in our November 2003 general election. In the governors race Republican candidate Ernie Fletcher has been hand picked by President George W. to run against labor-endorsed Democrat Ben Chandler. If Chandler is defeated, well lose our state prevailing wage and see a right-to-work law. Fletcher is already committed to signing both of these laws. A job fair was held in May at the Executive Inn in Owensboro. Thanks to Bros. David Carrico, Steve Kaelin, and Bill OBryan for setting up a booth and promoting our local and JATC. Local 1701 in conjunction with the Sprinkler Fitters Local 669 held a pancake breakfast at the Owensboro BBQ festival in May. We had a great turnout. Thanks to all members of both locals for volunteering their time. In sadness we report the passing of retired charter member Al Cron. May he rest in peace. Tim Blandford, P.S.
