Snowbirds Head South
RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 46, SEATTLE, WA-Our snowbirds will head South
for the winter soon. We will miss them at meetings.
On Sept. 10 we held our first meeting at our new JATC training center.
What a great facility. Our museum is coming along nicely. Our summer
picnics were delightful.
We've lost quite a few members this year. We lament on their loss.
We wish them well on their journey to the longest call of all.
Congratulations to Local 46 Apprentice of the Year, Zach Cook.
Seattle may get a monorail system in the next few years. We are
hammering on our Monorail Board to have the train's hardware "Made
in the USA." Only two of the 12 candidates for positions on
the monorail board even mentioned "living wage" jobs.
On June 11, the Washington Legislature, including 25 so-called Democrats,
chopped off at the knees the legs of our unemployment insurance
system. Our beloved Gov. Gary Locke has signed it into law.
Safety reminder: Make sure all the lights are working and tires
properly inflated on all your vehicles, including bicycles. Don't
forget to ask for senior discounts everywhere you go. Remember,
if you are out of the USA, Medicare almost never pays.
Thanks to our volunteer military people for donating a significant
portion of their life for our well-being.

club enjoyed a busy schedule of summer and fall activities. July
and August luncheons featured stuffed shrimp and a lobster bake.
In July we attended the Service Pin Award Dinner, where approximately
100 members were honored for their years of membership.
Recently retired members volunteered their time to assist the local
in pro-bono projects at the Irish Cultural Festival and the Catholic
Labor Guild. Working on weekends for free Guinness Stout?
In September, eight club members attended the Alliance for Retired
Americans legislative conferences in Washington, D.C. We met with
IBEW officials to form a plan to stop federal legislation affecting
retiree benefits. A tip of the hat to Local 103 officers who picked
up the tab for our travel expenses.
In October the club offered one-day excursions to New Hampshire
and to the all-union Mohican Sun Casino in Connecticut. The casino
trip ended with a lobster dinner at Cap'n Jacks. On Sept. 20 Retiree
