L.U. 704 (catv,em&i), DUBUQUE, IA--A 50-year service pin has been awarded to Bro. Loren Trudo, who was initiated into Local 704 on April 22, 1952. Congratulations to him on this achievement.

This summer, Westphal and Company, Inc., with Local 704 members and some travelers, completed the River Ridge School Project--a tough job with a short time frame. This new school is 136,000 square feet and will serve as the educational environment for K-12. Crew members who worked on the project included Bros. Andy Flynn, Tom Townsend (foreman), Chris Lord (general foreman), Kendall Jacobs, Bill Frevel, Bob Melcher, Mike Reinert, Dean Markus, Dan Schneider and Paul Hundrieser.

Local 716 Brothers John Bogney,
John Elfstrom and Charlie Biddle
at the locals 2nd annual
Brotherhood Bash golf tournament
and picnic.

L.U. 716 (em,i,rts&spa), HOUSTON, TX--Our 2nd annual Brotherhood Bash golf tournament and picnic held in June was a huge success. Thanks to all who helped.

Our jurisdiction includes the fourth largest city in the United States. A lot of work lies ahead to organize the non-represented electrical workers. We are the pilot local in the Seventh District Organizing Plan. All of us working together is the only way to achieve our common goals: good wages, benefits and working conditions.

We have activated numerous committees--Safety, Historical, Big Brother, Mentor, Sick & Needy--just to name a few. Weve had a minority caucus for several years and now are a chartered member of the National Electrical Workers Minority Caucus. The Houston Chapter of the EWMC is involved with helping our retirees, cook-offs, dances, political activities and assisting our less fortunate members.

Our women members started a Women At The Trade Committee (WATT Women) five years ago. The WATT women remain active and their activities have included clothing drives, cook-offs, and fundraisers.

Remember--Union is not ME, Union is WE.

'Ole Timers Night

L.U. 728 (em,i,rts&spa), FT. LAUDERDALE, FL--The 19th annual "Ole Timers Night" was celebrated Oct. 6 in West Palm Beach and on Nov. 3 in Fort Lauderdale. Years-of-Service pins were presented to 163 active members with 20 or more years of service and to 23 retirees, including one retired member who received a 75-year pin.

Bro. Roger M. Whetstone was initiated into Chicago Local 134 in January 1928. In 1956 Roger moved to Fort Lauderdale, transferring his ticket and remaining an active member and, subsequently, a retiree. He still calls the hall on occasion to catch up with current events and share his sense of humor.

Apprentices participated in a voter registration drive during September and October to make sure that all apprentices have a voice at the polls during the upcoming election cycle. Many apprentices completed FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) petitions and were encouraged to become active locally and through the internet, educating themselves on the issues.

The number one issue in South Florida and across the nation is...JOBS! You have a voice, make it heard.

Congratulations to Don Farley on his recent retirement. Bro. Farley has served our local for many years and in many positions--as local chairman at the BNSF Railroad, E-Board member and as treasurer. We wish Don and Millie a long and healthy retirement.

The local would like to introduce its new officers and Executive Board members: Pres. Al Buitenwerf, Vice Pres. Luther J. Hall, Jr., Rec. Sec. Mark Dietrich, Fin. Sec. John Elrod, Treas. Raymond Wilke, and Executive Board members Doug Heath, Michael Hughes, Ray Ives and Anthony Smith.

Remember when you are holiday shopping please try to buy union made products. American purchases keep American workers on the job.
