Contract Extended

L.U. 76 (c,i,rts&st), TACOMA, WA--The Inside members of Local 76 voted to extend the collective bargaining agreement 14 months to August 2004. With the extension, it was also agreed to address non-monetary issues via mutual gains bargaining. This is to be accomplished by representatives of labor and management on our Partnering Committee. This non-adversarial means of negotiation is working to benefit both parties.

Our Brotherhood Committee recently sponsored our pin night celebration, giving out service pins (representing approximately 4,000 years of service) to more than 200 members.

Tommy Farmer, John Harris, Robby Robinson,
Jerry Byars, "Heavy" Dillon and Sandy Coley,
and 55-year member Ed Miller.

L.U. 80 (i&o), NORFOLK, VA--Service pins were awarded at a recent meeting and many retired brothers attended. Thanks to all these brothers for their service to our local. I can remember many of them as officers of our local and leaders on the jobsites. They have been good examples for us and we wish them the best. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the brothers who were unable to attend.

Local 80 officers, members and staff congratulate Credit Union Dir. Simone Huerta on her much deserved retirement and thank her for her 32 years of service to the local.

We also welcome Angela Fortner as the new credit union director and look forward to working with her.

Remember to work safely and attend monthly union meetings.

Victory in Court

L.U. 84 (o,t&u), ATLANTA, GA--Local 84 recently received a favorable ruling from the U.S. District Court, for the enforcement of the arbitrators award in the Emerick McDaniel case with Southern Nuclear. The company sought to get McDaniels reinstatement award terminated. We still have a similar case pending with Georgia Power Company and feel confident we will prevail in that case as well.

Local 84 has withdrawn the latest NLRB charges filed against the employee councils at Georgia Power after an investigation found that the councils did discuss contractual issues, but did not act on any of these issues. If the union discovers that they are in fact taking any action on contract issues, new charges will be filed.

Work Picture Slow

Local 86 members carry the IBEW banner for the 2003
Labor Day parade.

L.U. 86 (ees,em,es,i,rts&spa), ROCHESTER, NY--The work picture in our area remains slow, as it is throughout much of the country because of the sluggish economy. We hope the economy rebounds in the next several months.

On June 14 many of our members and their families, in conjunction with the Sheet Metal Workers Local 46, volunteered their time to collect money for "Dollars Against Diabetes" (DADs Day). We proudly acknowledge all union members who participate.

The rains held off for the annual Rochester Labor Day parade. Local 86 proudly represented the IBEW in celebrating the history of organized labor.

New Training Facility

L.U. 90 (i), NEW HAVEN, CT--Work in Local 90 continues to be slow. The JATC has begun apprenticeship classes in the new apprenticeship journeymen/wiremen and training facility. Thanks to members who volunteered their time to complete this facility by the September 1 deadline. On Sept. 27 Local 90 hosted the Greater New Haven NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Program. Thank you to Joe Rizzo, Peter Reilly and all volunteers.

On Oct. 14 Local 90 honored the following retired brothers at the Groton Motor Inn: Frank Amendola, Frank Baracco Jr., Dennis Beauchamp, Arthur Benson, Namon Bradley, Ronald Caminati, Richard Croteau, Brian Curtis, Lawrence DeBarros, William Fitzgerald, Thomas Gallo, John Harrington, Edward Hoy, James Jepson, Boyd Johnson, Charles Larkins Sr., Joseph LiPuma, Robert Mantovani, David Maule, Thomas Miller, Curtis Moore, Raymond Mulligan, David Munsill, Jack Palumbo, Loren Pierson, Joseph Porto, David Smith and Daniel Wysocki. These brothers have worked a total of 770 non-replaceable years.

On Dec. 14 Local 90 will hold its annual Christmas party for members and their families at Zandries in Wallingford. Local 90 will also continue to volunteer for the Fantasy of Lights at Lighthouse Park in New Haven. This effort raises funds for Easter Seals and brings a cheerful holiday season.
