Our Legacy

L.U. 96 (i), WORCESTER, MA--IBEW members can all be proud of wages, benefits and a strong brotherhood. We thank the retirees for handing down our values. Most recent retirees are Robert Swedberg, Stanley Wojtowicz, Jr., Donald Casey, James Dalzell, David Rennie, Carl Gronblom, Everett Abraham, Frank Bonczyk, Robert Champroux, Charles Saari, Paul Lachance and Russell Giroux. Good luck to all of you and thank you for building a better local.

The St. Patricks Day parade had strong marchers and great crowd support. Thanks to our Parade Committee--George Carpenter, Luke Carpenter, Paul West, Phil Johnson and Mark Boucher--and to all the brothers and sisters and families who came out to march.

A great game was seen by all who attended the 2nd Annual Local 96 Night at the Worcester Icecats. The Cats came back from a 6-1 3rd period deficit to beat the Manchester Monarchs in overtime. The Icecats are a St. Louis Blues farm team. Thanks to Bros. John Vizzo and Walter Zawalich for organizing this event.

Bro. Richard Antkowiak died at the age of 56. Dick worked most of his career with Ostrow Electric and was well known throughout the local. Dick had been a member of the IBEW for 31 years. Our deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

Paul A. West, P.S.

Informed and Involved

L.U. 98 (as,em,i&it), PHILADELPHIA, PA--Attending meetings keeps Local 98 members informed and involved, and the Brotherhood alive. Local 98 meetings are: for Sound and Communications, the second Tuesday of each month; for Electrical Construction, the fourth Tuesday; and Broadcasting, the first Tuesday. The Retirees Club meets the second Tuesday of each month.

The Local 98 Web site, www.ibew98.org, is also a source of information. See links to sites like the Local 98 Credit Union, a view of the latest "98 News," the calendar of events, journeyman training information and more.

The summer ended with a picnic at Clementon Park, attended by 4,000 members, and our annual Local 98 golf outing with 200 attending.

Benefit events last fall include the annual scholarship banquet, awarding $1,000.00 grants, and the walk for diabetes, organized by Apprentice Instructor Bob Hasty, which raised thousands for the cure.

Local 98 made a big endorsement for the reelection campaign for Mayor John Street. Bus. Mgr. John Dougherty extends thanks to all who helped in the November elections.

Work projections for 2004 are promising for Local 98. The Phillies stadium project is ongoing, in addition to two big new school construction projects. Also, a police barracks in Bucks County will go union.

New Contractors Signed

IBEW members with Howe Electric and Contra Costa
Sound and Communications on the jobsite at Local
100s $10 million Save Mart Center Arena electrical
project on the campus of California State University at
Fresno. The project employed 60 IBEW members for
11/2 years and is projected for completion two weeks
ahead of schedule.

L.U. 100 (c,em,i,o,rts&st), FRESNO, CA--New signatory Inside contractors: Hilly Howl, Inc. and Lawler Construction. New Sound and Communication contractors: Central California Electronics and Electronics Unlimited.

Changes under our new contract are as follows. For 2003-2006: A mileage increase from 35 cents to 36 cents per mile. From miles 30 to 40 the old flat rate was $16. Now from mile 30, travel will progressively increase to $23.10 to mile 40. Subsistence changedfrom $30 to $35. Any questions, please call the hall.

The increased cost of Health and Welfare has consumed most of the negotiated wage increase for the 2003 -2006 contract.

Bus. Mgr. Larry Kellerhals reports that Fresno Unified School District negotiations are complete; work remains on temporary maintenance hiring but it is hoped that in the future they will hire out of the local.

Local 100s general meeting is at 7 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month. Any petition for money must first come before the Executive Board before it can be presented to the floor.

M.A. Caglia, P.S.

Speak Your Mind--Vote!

L.U. 124 (ees,em,i,mar, rts,se&spa), KANSAS CITY, MO--Local 124 is spearheading campaigns to get our members elected to public office. Eleven of our members now hold elected public office. We cannot expect to significantly influence our government if we do not take an active part in it. Elections are not that far away. Our jobs and livelihood are at stake.

The current administration is the most anti-labor in history. We can change the balance of power in favor of working people by encouraging union members to run for political office. It is the grass-roots level of local and state politics where the majority of the work can be done. As much as 40 percent of construction is public works and the people elected to school boards and city councils are the ones who decide who will perform that work. Get Out and Run For Office, Get out and Elect our Members Into Office!

We remember the following deceased members: George Garrison, Donald Lord, Jerry Perkins, and Dennis Todd.

Congratulations to the following retired members: Joseph Bedsaul, James Edge, Phillip Gravina, Jerome Hill, Raymond "Gary" Hulsey, Walter Janzen, James Jewett, Gene Mitchell, Henri Mos, Donald Penson and James Tobin.

Frank Mathews, Jr., P.S.
