Clambake & Softball

L.U. 363 (catv,em,govt,i,t,u&ws), NEW CITY, NY-Our annual clambake was very well attended and supported, thanks to the clambake committee and all those who devoted their time and talents to make this a terrific event.

Our softball team presented the local union with three trophies in 2003. Local 363's team took first-place in the Newburgh league, first place in their division in the Long Island Tournament and received the IBEW Brotherhood Award. The Brotherhood Award was presented to the local at its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 3. Congratulations, team.

L.U. 364 (catv, ees,em,es,i,mt,rts& spa), ROCKFORD, IL-Local 364 recently held its second annual children's Christmas party. This year's party was especially welcome since so many of our families were feeling a financial crunch because of the terrible Bush economy.

The party featured fun, food and gifts for the kids. A visit from St. Nick was flawlessly enacted by Bro. Ty Hillman. Some of the older, "naughtier" children were overhead calling him San-"Ty" Claus. Thanks, Bro. Hillman.

With crucial elections approaching, Local 364 wants to register every single member to vote. Local 364 is among the top locals in Illinois in percentage of registered voters and we want to deliver all the votes we can to George Bush's opponent.

Right-Wing Agenda

L.U. 369 (em,es,i,lctt,o,rtb, rts, spa &u), LOUISVILLE, KY-There isn't much good news to report this month. November election results were generally bad for labor. Our new governor, former U.S. Rep, Ernie Fletcher, is a party-line Republican whose lifetime voting record on George W. Bush initiatives is 97 percent.

Fletcher co-sponsored a national "right-to-work" bill while in Congress and voted wrong six times on prevailing wage in the Kentucky House. Members of Local 369 and organized labor in general worked very hard, but it seems the general public has fallen prey to the relentless onslaught of the right wing propagandists.

As a result, we can look forward to an immediate effort in the Republican-controlled state Senate to repeal, at least partially, Kentucky's prevailing wage law and also to enact some form of RTW legislation. Political activism has never been more important to our members as the anti-labor right wing agenda becomes more and more prevalent across the land.

100th Anniversary

Int. Pres. Edwin D. Hill, Int. Sec.-
Treas. Jerry J. O'Connor and Int.
Vice Pres. Jon F. Walters present
retired Int. Rep. Roger Richardson,
a former Local 415 business
manager, with his 50-year service
pin.

L.U. 415 (c,govt,i&u), CHEYENNE, WY-Our local celebrated its 100th year anniversary in 2003. We were honored that Int. Pres. Edwin D. Hill, Int. Sec.-Treas. Jeremiah J. O'Connor and Eighth District Int. Vice Pres. Jon Walters joined our celebration. We also appreciated the attendance of many other dignitaries, with a special thanks to Wyoming Gov. David Freudenthal, a good friend of labor. Thanks also to our committee chairman, Frank Morrow, and all the committee members who helped make it memorable.

In this important election year, we must educate the unknowing, organize the unorganized, and work with the three "Ps": pride, productivity and profitability. We can recapture the work lost to the non-union, but we must change the things that made us lose the work in the first place.

Best wishes to Bros. Rod Berg and Gary Ogle, who have become City of Cheyenne electrical inspectors.

Local 415's "inside" negotiations are scheduled to begin Jan. 6. If you have any suggestions, contact the hall.

John J. Occhipinti, P.S.
