January/February 2004 IBEW Journal RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 58, DETROIT, MI-We enjoyed many successful events in 2003. In April, more than 240 people attended our awards banquet, where 97 members were honored with pins commemorating 50, 55, 60 and 65 years of service. Local 58 Pres. Joe Abdoo and Bus. Mgr. Jeff Radjewski, along with the retirees association Pres. John Ahern, made the presentations. We also honored the association's past president of 13 years, Bill Rushford. Some 60 members on average attended our monthly luncheons. In September, more than 40 members and their friends spent seven days touring Nashville and the surrounding area, as well as Tunica, Mississippi. All had a great time thanks to our tour director, Vice Pres. Charlie Mott. Our next trip is slated for September 2004 and we are tentatively looking at Cape Cod as our destination. Our Christmas party drew more than 150 members and guests. As usual, donations were collected for several worthwhile children's charities in the area. John Ahern, P.S.
RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 59, DALLAS, TX - The Local 59 (now Local 20) Retirees Club was formed in October 1975 and enjoys a large membership. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month for lunch and fellowship. Each family brings a covered dish, and between 25 and 40 are usually present for the meeting. All retired members are eligible and invited to join. Bill Bethune, Pres. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 99, PROVIDENCE, RI-Retirees and friends enjoyed a beautiful day, even with the pouring rain, at Local 99's summer outing. We especially thank Mike D'Amico and the officers and committee for doing a tremendous job. We were honored to have in attendance U.S. Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), state Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Rhode Island Sec. of State Matt Brown. Our great public officials met with Local 99 Bus. Mgr. Allen Durand and Asst. Bus. Mgr. Ron Leddy. Pat Colucci, P.S. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 100, FRESNO, CA-In addition to Local 100's regular retiree meeting on the second Tuesday of the month at Carrows Restaurant on Shaw street in Fresno, retirees Ron Titus and Robert Greco tell me that Snider Electric crews from past years have been gathering on the first Tuesday of the month. As of now they gather at Eddie's Pastry Shop, Cedar and Herndon Avenues. Some who have attended are Tony Watkins, Mitchell Forney, Ed Frantz Jr., Edward Kellerhals, Robert Greco, Ron Titus and George Soghmonian. M.A. Caglia, P.S.
RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 103, BOSTON, MA-The Local 103 club closed out the old year with its annual Christmas party dinner. Local 103's in-house caterers served a delicious dinner of surf and turf; hats off to them for taking such good care of us throughout the year. We also wish to thank the officers of Local 103 and International staff members Bruce Burton and Royetta Sanford for their care and guidance on our legislative mission to Washington, D.C., with the Alliance for Retired Americans legislative conference. We were very pleased to meet with both Sen. Hillary Clinton and our own Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Both senators showed their concerns for seniors by voting against the Republicam-sponsored Medicare bill, which endangers IBEW pensioners and could lead to privatization of Medicare. Issues involving senior citizens will be important planks in the platforms of the competing parties in this year's elections. We also extend our thanks to Carol Cipolari and the entire Journal and Media Department for their kindness and help during our visit and in processing our articles. Leo E. Monahan, Pres./P.S.
