RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 948, FLINT, MINewly elected Pres. Jim Harris and Sec. John Schoenfield have assumed their duties continuing the good work of Tom Amie and Al Carlisle. Snowbirds are steadily returning from the warmer climates and helping the Monday morning mowing crew prep the lawn equipment for the weekly landscape attack. Our IBEW Local 948 union hall has been renovated and enlarged to allow for needed office and storage space. No doubt a big touch-up effort will be necessary after the rough grading to bring the lawn up to preconstruction condition. We have lost many of our retiree brothers since our last article and these good men will be missed: Ron Eastwood, Tom Garland, Larry King, Douglas McIver, Ed Howicz, William Robbbins, Larry Gorbutt, Clark Lewis, Glen Livingston, George Nichols, George Rutherford and Al Slim Simmons. Jack Williams, P.S. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 1522, ALLENTOWN, PAHello to all IBEW represented retirees pensioned from Lucent Technologies. A few years ago a group of L.U. 1522 members, concerned about our pensions and health benefits, formed a retiree organization known as IBEW/Lucent Pensioners Association. Our president is Jack Hemmis, a former vice president of Local 1522. Our vice president is Frank Kuzmin, a former Local 1522 president. We meet every month and wish to thank Local 1522 Pres. Nanci Mulzet and the other local officers, who graciously allow us the use of the union hall as our meeting place. Our organization enjoys membership in the PA Alliance for Retired Americans, an AFL-CIO affiliate dedicated to preserving pensions and health benefits of retirees. Our organization is also in close association with retiree groups out of former Local 2021, Oklahoma City; Local 1974 in Omaha; and Local 2020, Columbus. All IBEW retirees are welcome to contact us, especially those retired from the manufacturing sector. We hope to increase the number of retirees actively working to protect our pensions and benefits. Our Web site is: www.lucentunitedpensioners.org. Or write us at: IBEW Pensioners Association, P.O. Box 164, Coopersburg, PA 18036. Charles Althouse, P.S. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 1579, AUGUSTA, GAThe political season is quickly approaching. Please exercise your right to vote! We must stop the annihilation of jobs in this country. The United States has lost more jobs under the Bush administration than under any other president since Herbert Hoover, all while Bush runs around the country raising money for re-election to the tune of $435,000 every day since he began fundraising on May 1, 2003. Retirees in this country in 2030 will be an estimated $45 billion short of the income they will need to cover basic living expenses and health care. Did you know Bush has signed a Medicare bill that is a giant windfall for drug and insurance companies? Retirees Club meetings held the third Monday of each month from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the local union prior to the regular union meeting. We also have monthly retiree luncheons at Ryans Steak House in Martinez. If you are interested in food and fellowship, please contact Dan Anderson, Joe Happy Monday Murray or the local union office for dates and times. Remember: Although retired, our work is not complete. Gordon Rowe, P.S.
