Eastridge Mall Campaign

L.U. 332 (c,ees,i,o&st), SAN JOSE, CAOur work picture has improved recently. The new Civic Center in San Jose, the new Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara and two power plant jobs are employing many members. Work doesnt look quite as rosy after these jobs wind down.

Organizer Bob Seaberg has worked hard to convince Eastridge Mall owners to employ local building trades people. Bob, in cooperation with the Building Trades Council, has had some success securing some of the work, but hes not satisfied with only part of the work. Hand billing continues every Friday evening at 5 p.m. Thanks to all volunteers helping out, especially first-year apprentices.

The deadline for the State Certification for electricians and fire alarm techs is approaching. Take your test soonits not that bad. Classes are available at the JATC on a drop-in basis.

Many other JATC classes are also available. You can upgrade your skills by taking PLC classes, Solar Photovoltaic, Computers, Lonworks and many others. We must be the most highly trained workforce performing our craft.

Thanks to all election volunteers. We conducted a strong get-out-the-vote effort. Kudos to Cheryl Brady, our political point person.

Have a great winter and holiday season.

Alan Wieteska, P.S.

Greetings of the Season

L.U. 340 (em,io,rts&spa), SACRAMENTO, CAPlease see the "Currents" section on Page 13 of this months Journal for greetings from Local 340 Bro. Bryan B. Wilfong, who is serving in the U.S. military in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bro. Wilfong and all our IBEW brothers and sisters serving in the military are doing us proud, and I know you join me in wishing them a safe return home.

I am sorry to report the passing of the following brothers: retired members Howard K. Skeels and Albert Reese; and active apprentice Jonathan T. Johnson, who was killed in an automobile accident. Our condolences go out to their families. Our brothers will be missed.

On behalf of Local 340 officers, members and staff, I wish you all a merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and prosperous 2005.

A.C. Steelman, B.M./P.S.

Magna Park Barbecue

L.U. 354 (i,mt,rts&spa), SALT LAKE CITY, UTLocal 354 actively registered voters for the November election. At this writing we were nearing Nov. 2, the most important election in our lifetime with the future of unions at stake.

We hope all working people voted to change the administration in the White House, to protect the rights our forefathers fought so hard to establish.

Our annual Labor Day picnic was held at the Magna Park on Sept. 6, and we had a great turnout of members and their families. We served over 800 people at our barbecue and raffled off 72 bicycles. This picnic has become a very popular summer event for all of the building trades. Approximately 6,000 people were at the park enjoying the food and the antique car show. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this a successful day.

We still have 180 people on our Book I, but work is starting to pick up slowly. We hope everyone has a happy holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Prize Winning Float

L.U. 364 (catv, ees,em,es,i,mt,rts& spa), ROCKFORD, ILLocal 364 participated in Rockfords Labor Day parade. Our local took 1st place in the float competition thanks to Bros. Matt Horn and Dave Johnson, who designed and coordinated the building of the award-winning float. Approximately 200 members and their families marched in the event representing our local. The float paid tribute to Local 364 Bros. Steve Bjork and Shawn Nevitt, who are serving in the military in Iraq. We wish them well and pray for their safe return.

Prior to the November presidential election, our local held a voter registration drive and increased our percentage of members registered to vote to over 95 percent. At the time of this writing, the election was drawing near. Lets hope we all worked hard enough to elect worker friendly candidates, both for the sake of our families futures and for what is best for America.

In these tough economic times and in the spirit of brotherhood, the members of IBEW Local 364 wish all our IBEW brothers and sisters a heartfelt merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

L.U. 380 (ei,es,i&it), NORRISTOWN, PALocal 380 JATC recently held its 2004 graduation banquet to honor our newest journeyman wiremen. Five years ago these same students chose a career path that would afford them the opportunity to learn a trade through shop and classroom studies while working on the job learning hands-on skills. This group of new journeymen should take pride in knowing that they are well-trained, well-educated union electricians.

Awards for 5th year perfect attendance went to Damion M. Covelens, Douglas M. Massaro and Samual J. VanHorn Jr. Perfect attendance for all five years of school went to Edward A. Adamski III, Anthony L. Hawk, Jason M. Kateusz, Charles A. Pembroke, Ryan Roberts and Patrick N. Wasylenko. Third place overall achievement award recipient was Jack E. Martin and second place went to Anthony L. Hawk. For first place, the James W. Mayall Award went to Edward A. Adamski III.

The 5th year class volunteered on a community service project at the Boy Scouts of America Ochonickon Scout Reserve. The project involved upgrading the existing phone system and installing an emergency paging system. The Boy Scouts were very appreciative of all the hard work IBEW volunteers provided at their camp.
