Tis The Season

L.U. 46 (c,em,i,rtb, rts,cs,es,mt,mo, mar,as,et&st), SEATTLE, WAThe busy end of the year draws near with seasonal celebrations. When you count your blessings, please remember your union family and add your union brothers and sisters to your list of those to be thankful for.

The food bank at the hall is a vital support for the unemployed. Many thanks to members who contribute time, money and supplies. Much gratitude to the Sick & Visitation Committee; they provide a bright spot for our sick members. Our 2004 summer picnics were pleasant get-togethers for Local 46 families. We thank all the volunteers and the Unity Committee for all their great work throughout the year.

Thanks to our union hall staff for all their support of members. As we move into our new building, may our support and concern for each other go with us. While the old building had a lot of history, our history is part of us. We honor our past and our retirees, so we can turn to face the New Year with the spirit to continue the good fight America Needs Unions!

Bro. Teeples Labor Legacy

L.U. 48 (c,em,i,rtb, rts&st), PORTLAND, ORHerman R. Teeple, Jr. passed away Sept. 12, 2004. Bro. Teeple began his career as a construction electrician and became a business agent in 1956. He was Local 48 business manager from 1963-1971. He served as a Portland-based IBEW international representative from 1971 until his retirement in 1987. Bro. Teeples legacy is largehis accomplishments include establishment of the Metro Training Center and the Edison Pension Plan. He was elected into the NW Labor Press Labor Hall of Fame. Bro. Teeples survivors include his son Gregory Teeple, IBEW Ninth District international representative and former Local 48 business manager; and his daughter Anita Stammer, executive assistant to Local 48 Bus. Mgr. Barry Mitchell.

Local 48 worked hard during the campaign to support John Kerry for president. The work picture, which was so bright during the Clinton administration, entered the dark ages under the Bush administration. It must improve1.7 million good paying jobs have disappeared under Bushs watch. We are working hard to bring those jobs back.

At this writing in late October, we are hopeful that Kerry will replace Bush in the White House and that he will help bring back what we lost under Bush.

Happy holidays to all!

First on the Scene

Local 66 members
responded to a lights-out
call and came upon quite
a scene. From left are local
union Bros. Tony Olivas,
Jeff Young, Joe Hanzulka,
Billy Klopsteck and Ron
Dyer.

L.U. 66 (o,t&u), HOUSTON, TXLocal 66 members were the first to respond to a lights-out call.

Upon arrival at the scene, the IBEW members found a car suspended from the cable TV and telephone "guys" or guides (see photo). The car turned out to be stolen. During an earlier police chase, the driver lost control and drove the vehicle up a 45-degree angle "down guy," blowing a line fuse and interrupting service to a neighborhood. The driver escaped, apparently unharmed.

Customer service was restored and the car was removed by Local 66 members and employees of CenterPoint Energy.

Winter Work Slow

L.U. 68 (i), DENVER, COAs of this writing, the work picture is slow at best. Jobs are coming out of the ground up north and in the metro area, but they wont hire until later in the year. Some of the jobs are "50/50 jobs" and will hire 50 percent from the hall; but with the large number of members on furlough, hiring at the hall will be slow.

We welcome two more faces at the hall: Joel Holden, VDV agent/ organizer, and Todd Wagner, residential agent/organizer.

At press time there are 684 members on Book I; 64 members on Book II; two members on Book III; and four members on Book IV.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Larry ONeill, Pres.
