Fink (left) and Paul Woeste.

L.U. 82 (em,i&mt), DAYTON, OHWe recently celebrated this years service pin awards dinner. With over 100 members present, Bros. Wilbur Fink and Paul Woeste received their 55-year pins and certificates (see photo). Also receiving special recognition for 50 years of service were Bros. Gilbert Barlow Jr., Ralph Helton, John Holdeman Jr., Claude Krug and Milton Weidle. Everyone enjoyed a great evening meeting old friends.

Work calls continue to be slow. Our training continues to be strong. Members are learning new technologies as employers expand into new fields and look to gain new work even through the Internet.

Brothers Mourned

L.U. 104 (lctt,o&u), BOSTON, MALocal 104 is saddened to announce the passing of Bros. John Vahey and Tom Greeley. Bro.Vahey was involved in a fatal traffic accident while returning from storm restoration in Florida. Bro. Greeley served the local for many years as the recording secretary and assistant business manager. Both will be sorely missed.

Our recent elections saw Bro. Bob Ward step down from the business manager/financial secretary position after more than 25 years of service. Local 104 members owe a huge debt of gratitude for his stewardship of the local union through good times and bad.

The third annual "Charity Classic" Golf Tournament was a huge success. Establishment of an expanded Scholarship Fund was the goal this year. Many thanks to all who participated and helped us reach that goal.

Be productive, be safe, and buy American products.

Stephen ODonnell, Pres.

Campaign Volunteers

James Wilkinson and Darin Reardon.

L.U. 124 (ees,em,i,mar, rts,se& spa), KANSAS CITY, MOLocal 124 members have been extremely busy this fall working for political candidates. As of press time, Pres. Rudy Chavez was coordinating the local AFL-CIO 2004 Mobilization program, recruiting volunteers for Americans Coming Together and John Kerry labor walks, staffing phone banks and registering new voters. Local 124 volunteers performed above and beyond the call of duty as volunteers during the campaign.

Missouri AFL-CIO Pres. Hugh McVey hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 26 for a new exhibit at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence, MO, entitled, "Every Four Years, Electing a New President." National AFL-CIO Pres. John Sweeney spoke of the "buck stops here" days and how that concept needs to be applied today.

The exhibit highlights the past 80 years since radio and television began bringing campaigns to the American people. The exhibition was made possible by generous contributions of volunteer labor and money from the entire AFL-CIO labor community.

May the best fairways and the brightest greens be in front of just retired Rec. Sec. Reggie Marselus. Well miss you, brother.

Seasons Greetings

L.U. 134 (catv,em,govt,i,mt,rtb, rts, spa&t), CHICAGO, ILThe work picture remains slow in the Cook County area at this writing, with a limited number of new jobs coming out of the ground. We hope a mild winter will allow for an early spring start to the construction season.

Chicagos Navy Pier was the place to be on Sept. 6 for the annual Chicago Federation of Labor Day. This day-long event included amusement rides, face painting and clowns for the kids. A host of union and political leaders from around the state of Illinois were on hand to fire up the crowd for the upcoming presidential election.

Let us take a moment to remember our members who are bravely serving our country and their families, who anxiously await their safe return.

Local 134 Bus. Mgr. Mike Fitzgerald, Pres. Tim Foley, officers and staff extend to our union brother and sister members and their families best wishes for a joyous holiday season.

Mike Nugent, P.S.

Thanks to Volunteers

Local 146 members employed by Bodine Electric in
August 2004 on the Zanthan project at the A.E.
Staley complex in Decatur, IL.

L.U. 146 (ei,i&rts), DECATUR, ILLocal 146 members volunteered electrical services for the: Decatur SummerStart Festival, Macon County Fair and Decatur street festival.

Our Labor Day picnic Sept. 6th was followed by a parade in downtown Decatur. Our 4th annual Poker Run was Sept. 18, and the Steak Fry was Oct. 2. Thanks to all who helped make these events successful.

Work improved slightly during the summer, with the Xanthan project at the A.E. Staley complex and with increased manpower requests at the Archer Daniels Midland Company plants. Security modification at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station allowed for several manpower requests in September. We are pleased with an announcement that Decatur will be the permanent home of the Farm Progress Show for the next 20 years, beginning in 2005 and alternating every other year. This will allow for the development of a 640-acre site to house the show.

2004 service pin recipients are: 55-year member Robert C. Younger; 50-year members Carl V. Cripe, Oral K. Deichmann, Robert C. Deister, Robert Garecht, Kenneth A. Gordon, Charles L. Hayes, Carl D. Moyer and Kenneth E. Webb; 45-year members Larry Allen, Richard Burge, David Chamness and David Shepherd; and 40-year members Russell Cain, Charles Weatherford and Linus Willenborg.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

Shad E. Etchason, Pres.
