2005 Conference on Creative Organizing/Great Labor Arts Exchange

June 19-21 – National Labor College – Silver Spring, Maryland

"You have to organize hearts as well as heads," says John McCutcheon, a local president with the American Federation of Musicians.

That is why labor organizers, activists and artists from dozens of unions will converge on the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland for two great events – the Conference on Creative Organizing, and the Great Labor Arts Exchange – which will both be held June 19-21, 2005.

Roxanne Munksgaard, a member of IBEW Local 1837 in Bangor, Maine, a frequent participant in the events, encourages other union members to attend. She says: "I don’t think I could live without this yearly event, the chance to be creative, to see what others are doing, to listen to diverse voices, like the African-American gospel singers from the South, with the pro-labor message, or organizers from the West Coast, who I normally wouldn’t hear in Maine."

The Labor Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the labor movement through the use of music, art and culture sponsors both events along with the National Labor College.
