L.U. 134 (catv,em,govt,i,mt,rtb, rts, spa&t), CHICAGO, ILThe work outlook remains sluggish in our area as we enter the winter season. As 2004 comes to a close we gladly say good-bye to a construction year that just never got in gear. We hope the 2005 construction year will bring about an abundance of work in our area. A big thank-you goes to the many Local 134 members who supported our locals Christmas toy drive. The Dreams for Kids organization, which supplies much needed support for over 1,000 Chicago area childrenfrom area youth centers, homes and shelterswill benefit from this years donation. Special thanks to Bus. Rep. Maryellen Foley, Lynn Condon, Maria Riojas and Joe Govea, along with their volunteer group, for coordinating the toy program. On behalf of Local 134 Bus. Mgr. Mike Fitzgerald, Pres. Tim Foley, officers, staff and members, a wish for a healthy and prosperous new year from our family to one and all! Mike Nugent, P.S.
L.U. 141 (ees,i,o&u), WHEELING, WVWork in our area has slowed significantly with high unemployment. We await the spring start of a job at Mitchell Power Station to get our members back to work. The JATC held a completion dinner in November 2004 for our newest wiremen. The dinner was held at the Ramada Plaza in downtown Wheeling. Congratulations to the graduates: Pat Ging, Mike Haynes, Derick Namack, Mike Parker, Luke Pelley, Tony Sikole and Joe Straughn. Best of luck to each of them. Our annual Christmas party in December was well attended. Thanks to the Social Committee volunteers for the fine job. At the party, service pins were distributed by Pres. Doug Yahn and Bus. Mgr. John Clarke. Award recipients were as follows: 55-year members James Russell Sr. and Frank Stoy, recently deceased; 50-year members Gerald Keller, Tom Sarris, Kenneth Straub, Paul Tepe and William Yahn; 45-year member John Kapak; and 40-year members Dick Armstrong, John Barlow, the late David Raab Sr., and Ed "Mineral Man" Reynolds. Congratulations to all. Local 141 is saddened by the deaths of Bros. Frank Stoy, Paul Burkey and David Raab Sr., our training director for over a decade. They will be sorely missed. Tom Conner, P.S. L.U. 146 (ei,i&rts), DECATUR, ILApprentices and journeymen gathered the evening of Nov. 10, 2004, to decorate Decatur Central Park for the holiday season. By their actions, Local 146 members continue the tradition of community involvement and volunteerism. The quality of the Christmas lighting installation received the praise of the Decatur Downtown Council. Good job, Brothers and Sisters! Congratulations to our 2004 retirees: Dave Stinson, Ron Spires, Terry Lankow, Gary Brown, Bob Hart Sr., Gary Craig, Larry Gregory, Chuck Carter, Warren Goodrich, Dave Allen, George Cripe, Gary Pruemer, Mark Johnson, Ken Ray and Leon Turner. While reflecting on 2004 let us also remember those who passed away: Clyde Roles, Richard Dietzen, Paul Karr, Robert Ahlrich, Kenneth Ziemer, Jon Dearnbarger and Lawrence Murphy. We appreciate these brothers for their dedicated service to the IBEW. They will always remain in our memories. The start of a new year brings opportunity for journeymen wiremen to return to the classroom. OSHA 10 and 30 hour classes and instrumentation classes will be offered. Contact the JATC for more information. The members, officers and staff of Local 146 wish the entire Brotherhood a peaceful, prosperous and productive 2005! Shad E. Etchason, Pres.
L.U. 159 (i,mar, spa,mt&it), MADISON, WIIt has been a steady year of work for our members, so we have much to be grateful for. The work situation for 2005 is expected to also be steady with some work for Book II. Our local continues to encourage a strong apprenticeship program, celebrating the completion of our newest journeyman inside wireman. Congratulations to the 2004 JATC graduates, who were honored at a recent completion banquet. (See photo). We also honor Local 159 members who recently received years-of-service pins. Honorees are as follows: 40 yearsRichard Brady, Robert Fritz, Howard H. Hanson, Randall Hilgers, Robert Miller, Donald Small, Ronald Small, Keith Urbach and James Virnig; 45 yearsThomas Clark, James C. Smith and Newton Vander Woude; 50 YearsDonald Boe, George MacLean, Vernon Moe, Edward Trexler; 55 YearsWilliam Wagner and Nathan Williams; 60 YearsRobert Hilgers; and 65 YearsHenry DeHaan. Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2005. Billy Harrelson, B.M. L.U. 160 (lctt,o&u), MINNEAPOLIS, MNOn Nov. 29, 2004, Local 160 hosted a joint meeting of the local unions representing Xcel Energy employees. Union members from Local 23, St. Paul, MN; Local 111, Denver, CO; Local 949, Burnsville, MN; Local 953, Eau Claire, WI; and Local 1426, Grand Forks, ND, joined IBEW Sixth District Int. Rep. James S. "Jim" Dahlberg and Eleventh District Int. Rep. Curtis E. Henke to discuss common interests. Unfortunately, Local 602, Amarillo, TX, was unable to attend. Safety matters, Xcels use of nonunion contractors, mutual gains bargaining and downsizing are just some of the issues causing problems for the locals. Since Xcel seems unwilling to work in partnership with its organized work force, understanding each others successes and failures appears to be the key to better serving the membership. The joint group plans to meet again in the spring. Wayne Zimmerman retired as a business representative. Wayne will continue to serve as president and as an organizer; Bob Boogren and Terry Klomps will take over his business representative duties. Local 160 thanks Bro. Zimmerman for his service and welcomes Bros. Boogren and Klomps to their new positions. Daniel S. Seawell, P.S.
