United We Stand

L.U. 201 (em), BEAVER, PAIn this transition period, our vision is to remain focused on the needs of our members. We offer a special tribute to our chief steward, Jeanie DAlessandris, who with a wealth of knowledge has addressed and resolved issues that affect our members. Sister DAlessandris has served Local 201 in various capacities too numerous to mention. Her expertise is legendary. Newly appointed stewards Ken Bowen, Eric Hoover, Maryann Russell, Joe Palakovich and Sue Raimondo, under her tutelage, are also commended.

On Aug. 29, 2004, sister Dianne Harris and sister Shirley Wade of the financial and 401 pension committee held a seminar with Nexus Financial consultants. Educating our members is very important. It is never too early to plan.

Our 2004 annual picnic was a great success. Familiar faces from the past, good conversation and lots of prizes made a great time for all.

Local 201 officers and members worked hard to get out the vote for the November elections. Countless union members gave their all in an effort to make the election a win for the middle class, and a win for creating good jobs for working families. Keep up the fight, brothers and sisters.

Support the boycott. United we standunited we can!

grant check to IBEW Local 236 Bus. Mgr. Donald

L.U. 236 (catv, ees, govt,i,mo,rtb&t), ALBANY, NYIBEW Local 236 of Albany, NY, in affiliation with the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) and National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), received a grant of $148,000 from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. This grant is for installation of a 30-kilowatt solar power system for our union training center.

The new installation at the training center will help IBEW contractors and electricians alike to gain firsthand experience installing solar power. This will be a great way to help the electrical industry grow for the future.

On November 23, 2004, Lt. Gov. Mary Donohue and New York State Sen. Neil Breslin presented Local 236 Bus. Mgr. Donald W. Rahm (center) a grant for $148,000 for the solar project.

Still The Best

L.U. 245 (govt, lctt,o,rtb&u), TOLEDO, OHOn the outside the 71/245 agreement has been settled with a one-year contract with a substantial wage increase. Work on the outside continues to be good and looks as though it will continue through the northwestern Ohio winter.

On the utility property, First Energy joins the trend in corporate America with its new health care cost containment philosophy, which is to pass any increases in cost directly to its employees. A company that is looking at record profits in the billions has the audacity to jump their employees health care contributions by over $100 a month. This, coupled with last falls elections, makes our immediate future look pretty bleak. But we will recover. We just have to remain united as strong union activists and continue to do what we do best, and that is our jobsbecause regardless of what happens we are still the best bang for the buck.

Local 245 officers, stewards and office staff wish all of you a happy, safe and prosperous new year.

Ray Zychowicz, P.S.
