L.U. 2330 (ees,i&rts), ST. JOHNS, NL, CANADAThe union entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the CAW to supply members to work at the Marystown shipyard. We are pleased to report that nine months later we have 88 members working in the yard. We are doing a great job promoting the IBEW at that facility. The Voiseys Bay Nickel project located in Labrador is continuously hiring and expected to peak at 250 electricians in early 2005. Remotely located, the project presents many challenges, and it is with great commitment we are determined to deliver the project on time and on budget. Welcome to our new members, residents from the Island, Labrador and especially the Aboriginal groups, who add a proud culture to our local. This project started nonunion and because the Building Trades worked together, a collective agreement reached resulted in our members doing the work. The Henry Goodridge drill rig, scheduled for maintenance in February 2005 at Bull Arm, will be done by our members, unlike in the past. We have seized this opportunity to provide jobs for our members. The brothers and sisters of 2330 are working with the hall in reclaiming our market share and results are already evident. We are very proud of our members. Rick Dalton, B.M. SYSTEM COUNCIL U-7, BINGHAMTON, NYOn Nov. 18, 2004, System Council U-7 delegates signed a new contract with New York State Electric and Gas Corp. The term of the agreement is through June 30, 2010, giving stability to the bargaining unit in an unstable industry. Improvements were made to wages, pension and benefits, while a reasonable concession was made in the percent of co-pay on health insurance. Seventy-six percent of SCU-7 turned out to vote, with 58 percent accepting. Thanks from SCU-7 delegates to all who served on committees and helped so much in each local union represented on the council. System Council U-7 comprises: Local 83, Binghamton, NYDanny E.
