Attention To All

L.U. 445 (catv,i&spa), BATTLE CREEK, MIThe Local 445 picnic was Sept. 18, 2004, at the Sportsman Club in Bellevue. Chris and Pat Tramel, Deral and Sherry Murrie, Rex Mcadow and friends created a patriotic motif. Thanks to all volunteers!

Congratulations to 2004 graduating apprentices: Chuck Brown, Ed Greene, Tim Klacking, Nate Lipscomb, Bryan Mayes, Dave Morales and Troy Sloan.

The Executive Board appointed Deral Murrie as Local 445 treasurer.

Mr. Bush: With over 1,000 American combat fatalities in Iraq, huge budget deficits, jobs getting exported, and worse on the horizon, I dont want you as my "foreman." To be a good "boss," you must make decisions that benefit the people on your crew.

ATTENTION TO ALL: The following list of IBEW members, (birth date, then referral year), worked in the Local 445 jurisdiction in the past. They have pension contributions of less than $5,000 that may be refundable to them. If you have knowledge of these members, please contact Local 445: Jack Barron Jr. (12-10-52, 1989); R.T. Crowell (5-19-51, 1989); J.W. Eldridge (9-30-57, 1989); Elijah Harris (birth date unknown, 1971); Jan Komdeur (unknown, 1968); John Paxton (12-18-45, 1986); Robert Stahlhood (5-4-62, 1989); and Albert Tulick, (unknown, 1970).

Donations for Charity

L.U. 449 (catv,em,i,o,rtb, rts, spa&u), POCATELLO, IDAt the time of this writing we are preparing for the holidays. This is our second year of collecting donations for charity with IBEW/NECA LMCC. Our hot chocolate/coffee trailer seems to be a hit with the Christmas shoppers, and Albertsons generously allowed us to park the trailer on its property. Thanks to our brothers and sisters for all their time and effort. Special thanks to Laurie Watters for heading up the holiday project.

Work has been slow in our area. We thank all the locals that provided work for our members. We hope the work picture will improve after the first of the year.

Our condolences go out to the friends and families of Bro. Max Johnson, a retired member, and Bro. Dale Taylor, both of whom passed away.

Congratulations to Bros. Dennis Hendricks and Jim Trevey. We wish them well in their retirements.

We are starting a new year. Its important that we stay involved in our union. We also must continue to be politically active at every level of government and voice our convictions. Our voices need to be heard as to the direction that we want our party to go.

Russell Hill, R.S.

Get On Board

L.U. 459 (ees,em,so&u), JOHNSTOWN, PAAs this new year begins, we hope all trade unionists learn from past mistakes, then move forward.

Going back to 2001, we recall a legislative proposal introduced in the U.S. Congress as the Emergency Retiree Health Benefits Protection bill (H.R. 1322). U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney introduced the bill, and it had 78 co-sponsors. It was a bill we would love to have seen enacted. It lacked political support, public support, and worker support. In 2001 not many retirees or workers thought companies, or courts, would let retirees suffer. Now many say what can we do? We need to get this bill re-introduced and campaign for its passage.

All trade unionists need to get on board, not wait until its their turn to get hurt. In a land of laws, we need laws passed to protect our retired workers. Lets get the New Years resolution to include working for legislative relief and organizing. Dont wait until youre in a barrel and need help.

County Fair Booth

L.U. 461 (i,rts&spa), AURORA, ILMany thanks to Local 461 Bro. Bob Young for submitting the information for this months article:

For the second year in a row, we stimulated much public awareness of our local by sponsoring a booth at the Dekalb County Fair in Sandwich, IL. We gave away IBEW embossed pens and pencils and held a free raffle for the public. Prizes were a boys bike, a girls bike, and a 5,550 watt generator. At the booth we offered people information about our various apprenticeship and journeyman training programs, and also our LMCC Plus 5 program.

Many members contributed their time again this year to assist with the booth. Members who helped were:  Bill Williams, Jim Messmer, Craig Staples, Lamont Jennings, Steve Branson, Bob Albright, Rich Todas, Kyle Veeder, Garret Hettinger, Craig Kendall, Jason Brendel, Jim Nauert, Jerry West, Reed Keldie, Mark Parris, Steve Tshannen, Hector Rosa, Joe Pyle Jr., Ken Weiland, Carl Schindlebeck, Jerry Branson, Jon Vester, Mike Foulkes, Bob Young and Rob Young. Special thanks to Rob Young for heading up the Fair Committee and doing an excellent job coordinating everything this year. For everyone involved it was a satisfying and worthwhile experience.

Plain Talk

Local 474 members attend a
Living Wage Rally in downtown

Engineers. Also at the rally, but

and Derek Mann.

L.U. 474 (em,i,lctt,o,rtb, rts, spa&u), MEMPHIS, TNCommunity activists and people of faith rallied outside Memphis City Hall to support a living wage ordinance. The ordinance seeks to create a working wage that would enable workers to lift their families out of poverty.

We are experiencing intense economic polarization across the nation. The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and the middle class is disappearing. This trend cannot continue. As IBEW members, we love and serve the Lord, respect family values, and contribute greatly to societyespecially in the field of technology.

As middle-class working people we deserve to have political representatives who represent our causethe human cause. It is a sad day for America when such social issues as abortion and same sex marriages have to be on the political agenda. Local 474 rises against all immorality.

As a labor organization, we continue to work diligently to empower the Democratic Party to advance the cause of working people, especially on economic issues. As a labor organization, we need to come together and present an agenda to the Democratic Party on social issues that reflects our moral valuesafter all, it should be "all about people like us."
