January/February 2005 IBEW Journal
L.U. 80 (i&o), NORFOLK, VAI am pleased to announce that Local 80 has moved into its newly constructed building located at 828 Providence Rd., Chesapeake, VA 23325. The second floor of the building will be home to the locals business offices, referral hall and credit union. The new location is centrally located in the Tidewater area with easy access to the major traffic arteries. Our telephone numbers will remain the same for the local union, credit union and JATC. Our e-mail address is ibewlocal80@earthlink.net. The officers, members and staff are proud of our new home and invite you to stop in for a visit. Also, the local union would like to thank the IBEW Local 80 Retirees Club for the new banner they recently presented to us. It looks great in the new boardroom. We wish a safe and happy holiday season to all. Dennis R. Dasher, P.S. L.U. 82 (em,i&mt), DAYTON, OHLocal 82 and the IBEW continue to grow. In November, 14 new members were added when photographers at Channel 7 TV reached an agreement to be represented by IBEW Local 82. On Nov. 11, the local hosted the monthly meeting of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, with more than 70 businesses represented. The JATC held its first open house, also on the Nov 11. Business owners, government officials, training directors from other locals and technical schools enjoyed a catered lunch and a tour of the hands on classrooms. Of particular note were the new motor controls and integrated systems labs. The open house was hosted by Bill Newlin, T.D., and Richard Brooks, A.T.D. Pres. Jim Taylor invited each of the companies signatory with Local 82 to make a short presentation at the monthly business meeting. These companies are our partners in providing professional, skilled electrical work to the Dayton area and beyond, and in securing a good standard of living for our members. Local 82 thanks everyone who worked so diligently during the 2004 presidential election cycle. Jeffrey W. Davis, P.S.
L.U. 86 (ees,em,es,i,rts&spa), ROCHESTER, NYWelcome back to Bro. Dan Conte, who was re-elected business manager after a three-year absence. Congratulations also to Pres. Greg Post, Fin. Sec. Jim Hynes, Vice Pres. Phil Smith, Treas. Rusty Bennett, Rec. Sec. Dan Guay; Executive Board members Terry Conheady, Jim Walton and Ray Simmons; and Examining Board member Jeff Conte IBEW Local 86 is saddened to report the death of our oldest retiree, Joe Fantaci, at the age of 101. Joe was a member of the local since 1918. Mike Farrell, P.S. L.U. 99 (govt&i), PROVIDENCE, RIWork in the area continues to be slow. A few good size projects are coming up, so with a little luck we will be at full employment after the first of the year. The Local 99 food drive has been very successful sending much needed supplies over to our brothers serving our great nation in Iraq; we wish them Godspeed on a safe return. Professor Scott Malloy presented a seminar on labor history for the apprentices. Professor Malloy gave an excellent talkand the topic needs constant reinforcement. An apprentice of value observes what journey people of substance do. If you as a union member buy imports, talk ill of your union or basically do not live up to the moral and ethical needs of this local union, you take a serious risk of poisoning the impressionable minds of the apprentice. Do your part to help create not only great electricians but also great union members! Please make a concentrated effort to attend every union meeting. A piece of your future is decided at every meeting. Why would you not want to have a say in that? God bless the USA! Joe Walsh, P.S. L.U. 103 (cs&i), BOSTON, MAResults of the 20004 presidential election are now old news. Over the next four years we will have to work tirelessly to protect all that has been worked for and is under attack by this administration. Local 103 members rose to the occasion and helped make New Hampshire and Maine blue states. This could not have been possible without the get-out-the-vote efforts of all the volunteers and the Local 103 members who live in those states. On Sunday, Dec. 5, over 700 members children had fun at our annual childrens Christmas party where Santa paid a visit. Thanks to the committee for their hard work. By now, we have learned the fate of our proposed 153,449 kw wind turbine. We have every reason to believe our permit will be approved by the city of Boston. This wind turbine will be 133 feet to the nacelle and 147 feet to the tip of the blade, located on our property, to help power Local 103s apprentice school. The turbine will also be used for educational purposes. It will remove 184,139 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air per year. William Molineaux, P.S.
