March 2005 IBEW Journal
L.U. 265 (i,mt,rts&spa), LINCOLN, NEOur locals 2004 Christmas party was a great success. Approximately 250 people, including nearly 150 children, attended the party held at the Fire Fighters Reception Hall on Dec. 12. The party featured dancers, raffles and a visit from Santa. Entertainment was provided by four Capital City Cloggers dance groups. Each dance group consisted of children and teenagers ages 5-15, including some dancers from the families of Local 265 members. The Capital City Cloggers did an excellent job. Party raffle prizes were passes to the truly remarkable "Lincoln Lights" Christmas display at Mahoney Park on 70th and Fremont Streets. Children of all ages happily gave Santa their Christmas lists and received a gift from Local 265. It should make each one of us feel good about ourselves when we give to the families of our local union brothers and sisters. On behalf of Local 265, we wish everyone a safe and happy new year. Joe Davis, P.S. L.U. 275 (catv,em&i), MUSKEGON, MIThe work situation, as seems to be the case everywhere, has remained slow. It is vital that we as members remain energized in the wake of the Bush administration reelection. Many opportunities exist to make change and be an effective union member. Stay in contact with your senators and representatives, volunteer for pro-labor causes and attend your local union meetings. Together, it is guaranteed we can make change. In solidarity!
L.U. 295 (em,i,o,rtb, rts, spa&u), LITTLE ROCK, ARWork in the jurisdiction is slow at this time. We currently have projects scheduled at Arkansas Nuclear One, which should relieve some pressure on the book later this year. The Apprenticeship Committee will select this years class soon after publication of this article. We encourage you to send applicants to the Little Rock JATC office as soon as possible. Thanks to our Habitat for Humanity volunteers for completing another house (see photo). Bobby Thornton L.U. 357 (c,i,mt&se), LAS VEGAS, NVLocal 357s 2004 retirees Christmas party was a great success. Once again, congratulations! Brandie Yell, P.S. L.U. 441 (as,i,o&rts), SANTA ANA, CAAfter nearly 40 forty years of service to the IBEW and Local 441, our Apprenticeship Training Dir. Richard Vining has retired. Bro. Vining became a member of the IBEW in July 1966. He graduated from our apprenticeship training as an "Outstanding Apprentice of the Year" for the 1969 graduating class, receiving the gold watch for his high achievement. For many apprentices, Richard was a challenging instructor who demanded the best from every student. Always an active participant on issues important to this local union, Richards leadership will be missed. Richards son Matthew is the third generation of the Vining family to hold Local 441 membership and is currently serving his second term as Local 441 vice president. We congratulate Richard for his many years of service and wish him a long and healthy retirement. Steve Igoe, P.S.
