L.U. 636 (as,catv,em,spa&u), TORONTO, ON, CANADA—Two Local 636 members from the town of Lakeshore recently saved a fisherman from drowning. Members Jay Gignac and Jean Marc St. Pierre were driving along the banks of the Belle River when they noticed a man struggling to get out of the water. Acting very quickly, Jay and Jean Marc grabbed a ladder from their truck and rescued the man from the raging waters of the river. If our members had not happened by, the man would have drowned. Apparently the fisherman had been in the river for about an hour. We salute these brothers for their heroic efforts. Ed Lamb, V.P. LU. 654 (i), CHESTER, PA—Once again the Entertainment Committee did a fabulous job at another local event. The 2004 Christmas party was enjoyable as always, and it was great to see so many members out having a good time. The committee did an excellent job decorating the hall and providing gifts for the children. The work picture has slowed at the time of this writing. We hope work on the horseracing track will commence shortly, along with other smaller projects, and put some of our members back to work. With great sadness I report the passing of retired Bro. Gerald Metzer. He was a craftsman in the truest sense of the word and his lighthearted personality made him a pleasure to work with. Many of our members, myself included, were able to learn a great deal from Bro. Metzer over the years. Also, we are saddened by the sudden passing of Bro. John Bruce. He was organized with Pusey Electric in 1999. John was a good brother and will be missed. Our thoughts are with the families of our late brothers. Jim Russell, R.S./ P.S. L.U. 666 (i,mt&o), RICHMOND, VA—In the fall of 2004, we were able to put out travelers from other jurisdictions at Infineon, a chip plant that is expanding. The Richmond International Airport, State Capitol renovation, Performing Arts Center (old Thalhimers building downtown), and Philip Morris are upcoming work locations. The following brothers recently retired: Robert Bowman, Page Campbell, Greg Casarotti, John Cobb, Andre O. Guimond, Calvin Guyton, Sherwood Guyton, Sonny Henshaw, Bobby Hussey, Tom Lee, Henry Snoddy, Tom Tennille, Tom Whitlow, Newton Williams, and Bob Winfree. Good luck, brothers, and enjoy your retirement! We mourn the deaths of the following members in 2004: Buddy Boseman, Kevin Cox, Donald Dudley, Joseph Gilley, Billy Jones, Earl Kinney, Sr., John Koch, Roger Lloyd, Mickey Lucas, Thomas Mancuso, Jr., Wayne Morris, Robert Perkins, Buddy Smith, Irving Waldbauer, John Webb, Sr. and Harvey Williams. Larry Southward, P.S. L.U. 684 (c,i,o,rts&st), MODESTO, CA—Some of the long awaited projects should have made it out of the mud by now—Turlock Power Plant, Kaiser Hospital, Gallo Performing Arts, the new high school, the big jobs, all of them good size.
