Annual Blood Drive L.U. 134 (catv,em,govt,i,mt,rtb, rts, spa&t), CHICAGO, IL—The work picture remains slow in our jurisdiction at this time but we hope the summer weather will jump start the construction season in Cook County and get our brother and sister members back to work.

The March monthly meeting was a show of patriotic pride when three of our Local 134 members home on leave from Iraq came before the membership.

A rousing Local 134 ovation welcomed Bros. Andy Donahue, Phil Doran and Eric Schofield up on stage (See photo in “IBEW On Duty” in this month’s Journal.). May all our brother and sister members return home safely to their families!

A special thanks to Chmn. Matt Smith, the Local 134 Blood Drive Committee, and all our members for their participation in our yearly blood drive program.

Mike Nugent, P.S.

L.U. 150 (es,i,rts&spa), WAUKEGAN, IL—Local 150 honored its retired members at our December 2004 meeting. Recognized for 50 years of service were Bros. Frank Cerk, Charles Conrad, Denver Kelly, Richard Roberts, Gerald Wicks Jr. and Roger Williams. Fifty-five year pins and plaques went to Bros. Harry Bauden and Gerald Laurent. The membership was happy to show their appreciation for the effort these members put into building the legacy we enjoy today. The local’s gratitude also went to Bro. Dave Serzynski, for feeding all of us after meetings.

For the past few months, prior to the monthly meetings, the membership has had the opportunity to view video presentations of addresses by Pres. Ed Hill at the Business Managers Conference held the latter part of last year. Reaction has been cautious but the brothers and sisters of Local 150 stand together, ready to tackle the issues brought forth and strengthen and expand the IBEW. For any members wishing to view these videos, they are available for review at the hall.

This year’s summer picnic is scheduled for July 23, at Lakewood Forest Preserve, Shelter E. The annual golf outing is scheduled for Aug. 25, at Nippersink Golf Course. Contact Kurt Anderson at the hall for sign-up and details. Jon Stewart, P.S.

‘Build in Solidarity’ L.U. 158 (i,mar,mt,it&spa), GREEN BAY, WI—We are currently involved with negotiations on Inside contracts. As in other locals, we have been searching for ways to regain market share. It will take understanding and effort from our members to pursue the task ahead.

We are providing continuing education in Safety and Instrument Technician courses to better serve the industry.

The area Home Shows, in both Green Bay and Manitowoc, had +5 booths to promote our residential contractors this spring.

Our annual banquet was held in April. Members and retirees attending enjoyed the special occasion. It was a celebration of our local’s 85th anniversary. Hope we can build in solidarity to continue for many years ahead.

New Shops Sign L.U. 180 (c,i,o&st), VALLEJO, CA—Work has been a bit slow and our two large projects are trying to break ground between rainstorms. This has delayed hiring on the projects until the mid-summer. Travelers looking for work in our area should check our web site and have their California State Electrician Certification card.

Organizing has been doing well. The local has been on a seven letter mailing campaign to separate the facts from fiction on the value the IBEW offers electrical contractors.

In addition, Skip Lucier, a former partner of our oldest signatory contractor, has joined the staff. Skip’s perspective as an owner has greatly helped us in organizing top down.

We welcome two new shops that signed with the local. Zac Cameron, owner of Cameron Electrical and Lighting Design, and Kris Anderson and Craig Fry, owners of A&F Electric Construction, have signed both commercial and residential agreements. Zac and Kris are both members of the local, having come up through our apprenticeship program. We welcome Craig Fry to the local. We continue to work closely with new shops, helping the shops and the local grow.

Michael C. Smith, B.A.
