L.U. 90 (i), NEW HAVEN, CT—Work continues to be slow. We hope warmer weather brings more work. Local 90 is on the forefront of continuing education for journeypersons in the state of Connecticut. The union is offering several classes to journeypersons to fulfill the new state requirements to maintain an electrical license. We are also proud of our newly renovated teledata room. It provides our apprentices and journeypersons much needed hands-on experience in learning to terminate teledata cables and equipment.

L.U. 90 has secured numerous project labor agreements. The PLAs will ensure union work for many on upcoming and current projects. With the Legislature in session, our officers are fighting hard to defeat antiunion legislation. We are entering negotiations for a new contract and hope they progress in a timely, efficient manner.

The 2004 Christmas party was a great success. Children and parents had a wonderful time watching the puppeteer and magician and visiting Santa and his helpers. On May 7, 2005, we held a 25-year pin dinner dance. Congratulations to the honorees.

Local 90 member Brendon Toth was recently deployed to serve in Iraq. We wish him good luck and a safe return home.

Habitat Volunteers

L.U. 98 (as,em,i&it), PHILADELPHIA, PA—Is it possible to build a house for a family in need in just 79 days?

It is—provided you have the support of IBEW Local 98 members, who joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to completely rebuild a home in West Philadelphia. The project was launched on Labor Day and was completed in time for a Thanksgiving dedication.

The property required almost total rebuilding. Union volunteers installed new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. Local 98 Bus. Mgr. John J. Dougherty said, “We were delighted to be part of this team effort. It was gratifying for everyone involved and shows how much can be accomplished by working together.”

Other donors to the Partnership Build included five trades, and product and service donors. Mayor John Street was master of ceremonies at the ribbon cutting, attended by labor leaders and city officials. The event received television, radio and print media coverage. “We can’t thank Local 98 enough for their contribution and leadership on this project,” added Sara Moran, executive director of the Delaware Valley Habitat for Humanity. The happy new homeowner expressed great appreciation to all the participants.

Faribault Unit Picnic

L.U. 110 (em,i,rts, spa&u), ST. PAUL, MN—As I write this, spring is just around the corner. The slow economy continues, causing 183 to be on Book 1—however, some projects are coming up this summer that could clear the Book!

The following members went on International pension in 2004: Gary Abrahamson, Raphael Auge Jr., Warren Becker, Arthur Brown, Louis Carpentier, James Curran, Donald Dow, Robert Elizondo, Everett Engebretson, Richard Engstrom, Roland Flaherty, Keith Harden, Earl Kammerer Jr., Kenneth Lamb, Raymond Lee, Edward Linden, Armand Medina, Dennis Miller, Tomislav Nedich, Richard Nelson Sr., Donald Noyes, Joel Oberpriller, Jerald Ponto, Cutis Radman, Robert Sparby, Dwayne Stigsell, James Tollefsbol and James Vomela. Congratulations to all and good luck on your retirement.

The Faribault Unit will hold their annual picnic in Faribault, MN, at North Alexander Park on Friday, June 10. This is an excellent event to fill a summer evening, with plenty of good food and conversation.

Please remember and support the military veterans by writing letters of support for legislation to help veterans and their families—bills will be introduced in the U.S. Congress and the Minnesota Legislature.
