Elections Held

L.U. 728 (em,i,rts&spa), FT. LAUDERDALE, FL—The local union election of officers was held Monday, June 6, 2005. The opportunity for voting was available to all members in good standing through absentee ballot and in person at both the Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach halls. Elected were: Bus. Mgr. James A. Weldon, Pres. David C. Svetlick, Vice Pres. John Loveless, Rec. Sec./Treas. Nanci L. Tolan, and Fin. Sec. Raymond Flach. Elected to the Executive Board: John Feeney, Bob Bennie, Jim Kellerher, Johnny Mims and Zac Cassidy. On the Examining Board are: Roderic A. Call II, Manuel A. Caamano, Craig Pearson, Steven Sperduto and Monty C. Clift.

Two fund-raisers were held to assist our brothers and sisters. Johnny Mims organized a 50/50 that resulted in a successful barbecue and T-shirt sale with proceeds going to union brothers and sisters who had expressed a need. The Danisons organized a picnic and gathering to benefit another union brother. Both events were well-supported and well-attended. Several local members deep-fried turkeys for the annual United Way of Palm Beach County "Hands-On-Day." Thanks to all of you who give of your time and talent to our union brothers and sisters and the people in our community.

Murray Lubitz Honored

Local 742 Bro. Murray

his 40-year service pin
presented by retired
business manager
Peter Galinski.

L.U. 742 (mo&u), DEEP RIVER, ON, CANADA—On March 16, 2005, Local 742 had the pleasure of honouring our longest serving member to date. In January, Bro. Murray Lubitz celebrated 40 years of service with the local and 42 years with the IBEW. Bro. Lubitz works as an electrical maintainer at AECL in Chalk River. He has spent the past 40 years working out of the NRX Electrical Shop. Retired business manager Peter Galinski, a former co-worker, was in attendance to present Bro. Lubitz with his 40-year service pin. Pres. Doug Steeves presented Murray with a small gift from the local. Also in attendance to celebrate the milestone were retired business manager Clarence St. Jean and retired president Bud Wilson. Many fond memories and stories were shared as the group reflected on their many years of working together. The local extends its congratulations to Bro. Lubitz with continued best wishes for the future.

Space Center Project

At Kennedy Space Center, Local
756 members hoist an IBEW
banner at the OSBII project
jobsite. The building in the back-
ground is the Vehicle Assembly
Building.

L.U. 756 (es&i), DAYTONA BEACH, FL—Local 756 electricians are working on a big, state-of-the-art construction project at the Kennedy Space Center.

The Operations Support Building II (OSBII) will be the first on KSC to have a switchgear with redundant feeders and a switchgear that will be used as a proving ground for Launch Complex 39 A & B (shuttle pads). It can be remotely operated and will communicate real time with the Launch Control Complex. It will provide information such as breaker configuration, power usage and can be remotely queried as to its status. The OSBII will feature a first in communication for KSC with the first 10-gigahertz data and phone communication. The facilities contain a state-of-the-art Mission Conference Room with real time video conferencing, etc.. The meeting room also has state-of- the-art audio and visual equipment such as plasma screen monitors, video conferencing and surround sound for presentations. This facility will serve as mission conference area for future shuttle launches and planning support for the International Space Station.

We are saddened by the passing of Ms. Edith Whiting, Local 756 office manager and bookkeeper for 39 years before she retired in 1993. Ms. Edith was made an honorary IBEW member by Int. Pres. Emeritus J.J. Barry. She was a good friend to all and will be missed.

Productivity & Craftsmanship

Local 760 Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Allen
Pass Jr. (center) consults with
union steward Ron Asher (left) and
foreman James Williams during a
visit to an Inglett & Stubbs jobsite.

L.U. 760 (i,lctt,o,rts, spa&u), KNOXVILLE, TN—Our work picture looks a little brighter with a few calls going to Bull Run Steam Plant and Inglett & Stubbs. Also Lawson Electric from Chattanooga has a water plant project in Alcoa. As of this writing, the Bass Pro Shops job is held up because of decisions over where to put the building.

Negotiations are winding down for Appalachian Electric Cooperative and Tennessee Armature Motor shop. We are still at Rockwood Electric Utility looking for a better contract.

The 10th District insurance plan appears to be coming along all right. There are still a few issues to work out, but we believe it will be beneficial for everyone.

With the depletion of our work around the country, please keep in mind the qualities our union was founded on: productivity, craftsmanship, and a positive attitude to just name a few. Giving "eight for eight" should not be considered "wormy." If we are to be considered the best, we need to continue to be the best.

We are saddened to report that Asst. Bus. Mgr. Bill Huff’s mother, Marie, passed away. Also, longtime active member Gerald Thomas passed. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Will Muncy, P.S./A.B.M.

Market Recovery

Local 773 Bro. Sam
Riddick Sr. (left)
receives his 50-year
pin from Bus. Mgr.
Solomon Furer.

L.U. 773 (as,em,i,mo&o), WINDSOR, ON, CANADA—Work continues to be slow with little relief in sight. Some of the projects our members are currently working on include the new Begley Elementary School, the University of Windsor athletic field, the future site for the 2005 Pan-Am Games and the Windsor\Detroit tunnel.

The Windsor\Detroit tunnel border crossing was originally built in years 1928 to 1930 and is a major link between Canada and the United States. The two-lane tunnel has much of its original electrical equipment in operation and it will be replaced during this renovation.

The local continues to use Market Recovery to take work away from the non-union. Most recently two large water treatment plants, a Home Depot, a Zehrs in Chatham, upgrades at the Heinz Plant, and other projects have been secured.

With regret I report the passing of Bro. Leo Masionville, a member for 55 years. Bro. Maisonville was an active member then later became a contractor with Rorison Electric, which is still in operation today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Congratulations to the Local 773 hockey team on finishing second in the OPC Hockey Tournament held in Ottawa.
