Good Attendance

The Local 103
Retirees Club
welcomes Joseph
Nigro Jr. as a new
member. Bro.
Nigro is former
secretary/treasurer
of the Boston
Building Trades
Council.

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 103, BOSTON, MA—The Retirees Club membership is holding at 1,500 members in the year 2005. Our luncheons are attended by around 150 members and spouses. Attendance for special events at day trips and casinos is also uplifting.

Our summer political concerns are predicated on a Republican driven agenda to obliterate previously negotiated Health and Welfare benefits of union senior citizens on fixed incomes, including Medicare/ prescription drugs and Social Security.

We will send six retired members to the Alliance for Retired Americans/IBEW conferences in Washington, DC, in September. Local 103 is stepping to the forefront on wind generated energy with installation of a wind generator on the property, which will provide electrical power and northeast advertising on the benefits of alternative energy.

With great pride we welcome Bro. Joe Nigro Jr. to the ranks of the Retirees Club. Joe has completed an illustrious career in Local 103 politics. Over the past 35 years, he also served the Boston Building Trades Council in offices including president, business agent and general agent. He has attended every IBEW convention since 1970 and has served faithfully on the Boston Catholic Labor Guild, one of the oldest labor/religious organizations in America.

A Great Year!

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 105, HAMILTON, ON, CANADA—Hello to retired IBEW members from the Local 105 Seniors Club. Boy, have we had a great year! We have entertained our members with the card game euchre every Monday. Thanks for this goes to Lou and Pat Baff and Hal and Mary Cooper. Every second Wednesday we had bowling and acknowledge a great job by Dale and Joanne Bochek.

Our annual dinner dance was held in April at Carmen’s Banquet Centre. Our guests for the occasion were retirees from Local 353 of Toronto and Local 303, St. Catharines, Ontario.

We extend gratitude to all club members, officers and spouses who have contributed immeasurably to the success of our club. Their selflessness results in success of our club and the betterment of our seniors. Recognition goes to the officers and their wonderful spouses, all of whom serve with great dedication. You have all done a magnificent job! May the coming years bear forth the same fruits. God bless you all. This is what being a member of the IBEW is all about.

Crawfish Party

Local 130 Retirees Club meet-
ings are held at the local union
hall located at 3200 Ridgelake
Drive, in Metairie, LA.

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 130, NEW ORLEANS, LA—Our annual crawfish party on May 5 was a huge success. Approximately 160 seafood lovers attended. Because of the rising cost of seafood this year, a fee of $7 was assessed. This will be the only function this year that will require a fee.

The June 16 general membership meeting had a great turnout. Three of our active club members received their 60-year IBEW service awards and wrist watches: Bros. Larry Bouterie, Frank Bauer and John Mangiaracina. Congratulations, brothers.

Our next general membership meeting is scheduled for Thurs., Sept. 15 at 12 noon in the Alexander room. Your spouse or one other guest is also invited. We will have food and refreshments at the meeting.

We are saddened to report the passing of: Bros. Ulrich Buckel, Mark Drennan, Edward Fenasci, Francis Fenasci, Harold Francis, Albert Huffman, Frank Kent, Sidney Lambert, John Laurendine, Dominick Orlando, Earl Sevin, Lawrence Smith, Wayne Smith, Glenn Terry and Theodore Torres. May they rest in peace.

E-Board Election

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 134, CHICAGO, IL—Since our last article gas prices have gone up and up. Let’s hope that will change and the economy will improve.

We had our election for three E-Board members. Elected were Vito Alberotanza, Irvin Blazynski and Hugh O’Connell. We welcome new blood and new faces to energize our club.

The retirees’ bus trip to Branson was an enjoyable one.

Our club is proud to congratulate Bro. Dan Scanlon on a long and distinguished career in the electrical field and also in politics. Bro. Scanlon served for 55 years as an electrician in Local 134, as mayor of Morton Grove for two terms and as electrical inspector for 22 years. Besides all that, Dan and his bride Betty raised eight wonderful children. Again, congratulations, Mr. And Mrs. Dan Scanlon. Enjoy your retirement.

Club Activities

RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 164, JERSEY CITY, NJ—We have had a busy year. Club activities have included: a couple of trips to Atlantic City casinos, an antique car show and baseball game at the Limpost Stadium in Pennsylvania, deep sea fishing (one trip was to Canada), Octoberfest at Magnanini Winery and restaurant, and a golf outing with dinner and great prizes.

In December 2004 we enjoyed a Christmas show and party with dancing at the Fiesta restaurant, as well as a pizza party at the December meeting. Our January 2005 meeting was complimented by a nice lunch and an informative seminar on estate planning presented by Matt Fisher.

At the time of this writing we were planning another golf outing, for which members were encouraged to sign up early. We must limit participants to the first comes.
