RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 3, NEW YORK, NY, WEST FLORIDA CHAPTER—This spring, 26 of our club members and their families enjoyed a lunch buffet cruise out of Clearwater, FL. The weather was perfect and everyone had a good time. The occasion also marked the installation of Ken Gallagher as chairman, John Ziegler as vice-chairman and Bob Poskitt as treasurer. John Evers, John Cornell and Larry Bremer are stepping down after 10 or more years of service and the change will be become effective at our September meeting. Ben Costa, P.S.
RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 6, SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Our club, the Senior Sixes, gets together on the third Thursday of every month for a short meeting and lunch. On many occasions we have guest speakers who keep us up-to-date on such issues as health and welfare, and pension plan information. We are always looking for new members. On March 17 we had our annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic corned beef and cabbage lunch, which was prepared by Bill and Chuck Cendak. At the luncheon, a 60-year pin was presented to John Dutto. Mike Coombs, P.S. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 90 (i), NEW HAVEN, CT—At our May 3, 2005, meeting we had our yearly nomination of officers for the Local 90 Retirees Club. The membership has seen fit to unanimously name the same fine slate of officers again this year. They are: Pres. Rip Kirby, Vice Pres. Ace DellaCamera, Sec. Hugh McGuire and Treas. Bob Gallager. Our membership now stands at approximately 135, with the most recent new members being John Carney and John Harrington. On May 7, 2005, IBEW Local 90 held its 25-year pin scroll dinner dance to present pins to active Local 90 members. Myself and a large group of retirees were in attendance to congratulate all those so honored. The event was held at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Plainville, CT. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 98, PHILADELPHIA, PA—We held our 13th annual scholarship banquet at which time we gave three 65-year, two 60-year, 27 55-year and 28 50-year IBEW service pins. Bro. Jack Maloney is pictured in the accompany photograph with his 50-year award. The scholarship fund gives 10 $1,000 scholarship checks to relatives of Local 98 members. Philadelphia is noted for its rowers on the Schuykill River. A section of the river called Boathouse Row is lined with private and public clubs, all of which are outlined with white lights. This year the lights were turned off because of needed repair and power consumption costs. A new LED lighting system will be installed, featuring several colors and reduced power consumption. PECO Energy donated over $150,000 to this project. And some of our union contractors are donating trucks and equipment. Retirees Club Pres. Jim Wills has gotten over 20 Retirees Club members to volunteer their time for the project. L.U. 111 (em,lctt,mt,o,rrb,spa&u), DENVER, COIBEW Local 111 members in Grand Junction, CO, hosted their 16th Annual Chili Dinner for the members of western Colorado. This year the event drew over 100 members and guests for good food and fellowship. The event was held Feb. 8, 2005, at the Palisade Community Center in Palisade. The evening began with a membership meeting with Bus. Mgr./Fin. Sec. Michael A. Byrd, where he gave his state of the union report followed by a question and answer session. Following the membership meeting, hot dogs and chili were served. Management from the represented companies also attended and were able to mingle with their employees and the union representatives. The evening ended with door prizes awarded by Local 111 and Xcel Energy. Everyone had a great time. Remember to work safe and attend your unit meetings. Dennis Z. LeTurgez, P.S. L.U. 124 (ees,em,i,mar,rts,se& spa), KANSAS CITY, MOAs spring arrived, the work picture began improving. Job calls are trickling in every day. There is optimism that our traveling members can soon return home to their families. Congratulations to this years 103 JATC graduates. They received journeyman tickets at a May 26 ceremony. Five more Local 124 members won political seats in April 2005 elections. Congratulations to: John Pauley, elected as a Missouri state representative, Grain Valley, MO; Joe Runions (retired), elected alderman, Grandview, MO; Kelly Morales, alderman, Smithville, MO; Chris Livingston, School Board, Pleasant Hill, MO; and Roger Lake, Fire Board, Sni-Blue Valley, MO. Allan Ward has been elected president of the Winston Missouri School Board. These brothers will do well to secure job contracts in their districts. Battle lines are being drawn to fight right-to-work legislation in Missouri. All the help possible will be needed to win this battle. Republican Gov. Matt Blunt said he wouldnt sign the legislation, if you can believe a Republican who was elected with anti-labor campaign money. We remember the following deceased members: Larry Caldarello, John Gnefkow and Edward Wolfe Jr. Congratulations to the following retired members: James Burdge, John Brown III and Fredrick Nuzum III. L.U. 139 (i&u), ELMIRA, NYCongratulations to our newest journeyman wiremen. Graduates of the class of 2005 are: Dan May (our top apprentice), Andy Bouille, Mike Donlon, Bob Emms, Ed Fish, Josh Fitzwater, George Granger, Mike Meck, Jim Oswald, Bonnie Owens, Pat Nichols, Steve Paulhamus, Charlie Sharpsteen, Rick Shearer and Rod Southard. L.U. 141 (ees,i,o&u), WHEELING, WVThe initial phase of construction on the SCR and scrubber project at the Mitchell Power Station is winding down. United Electric was the major electrical contractor during this phase, with Nitro Electric and Chapman Corporation also being involved. Work has now begun on a new 1,000-foot smokestack, and steel will begin being placed later this summer. Welcome to our newest member, Carla Nay, and congratulations to our newest journeyman wiremen. They are: Todd Blakely, Darrin Borsos, David Cantrell, Doug DAquila, John Drake, John Hehr, Jake Hileman, Kevin Kendzerski and Aaron Pollock. Local union elections will be held soon and we thank the officers who served this term. Upcoming events for our members include the annual summer picnic at Wheeling Park. L.U. 150 (es,i,rts&spa), WAUKEGAN, ILLocal 150 honored its graduating apprentice class of 2005 on June 10 with a graduation banquet at the Midlane C.C. The class of 05 added 41 inside journeyman wiremen, nine residential journeyman wiremen and eight communication journeyman technicians to the local union rolls. Awards were given for "Outstanding Apprentice" in each class as well as the Robert Hansen Memorial Scholarship. Students, teachers and guests enjoyed a night of celebrating the graduates accomplishments. Congratulations to the graduates on all the years of hard work and the beginning of life as journeymen wiremen and technicians. May 11 saw the local acknowledge its journeymens service with a pin party at the Gurnee American Legion hall. "Years of Service" awards were given to members and all enjoyed an evening of food, beverage and socializing. Most notable were the 55-year service awards given to Bros. Kenneth Breitung, Theodore Galvani and Thomas Raven; and 50-year service awards given to Bros. Rudolph Peschman, Harry Preuss, Donald Smith and Ray Smith. The impact these members contributions had on the growth of our local cannot be overstated. We owe them our gratitude. RETIREES CLUB OF L.U. 102, PATERSON, NJ—Greetings, brothers and sisters. Last year, in February, I requested to be the club’s press secretary and I was appointed to that post. Little things happened here and there, and I could never get started. My apologies to all. Our club meets four times a year at the P.A.L. Building in Parsippany, NJ, at 10 a.m. on various days. All retirees receive a notice. Our Retirees Club president is Nick Sena and the recording secretary is George Van Dyke. I would like to start a project in which members living far away would send a letter with recent pictures, so our fellow brothers and sisters can "catch up."
