Road Trip to NTI

L.U. 68 (i), DENVER, CO—On July 29, 2005, a group of 20 Local 68 members loaded into three vans and headed to Knoxville, TN. We undertook the 20-hour trip to the National Training Institute to learn from the best instructors the IBEW can provide. The training was put on in conjunction with the IBEW, NJATC and the University of Tennessee.

Local 68 participants and the courses they completed are as follows. Anthony Schulte, Dave Humphreys, Frank Bean and Dan Hendricks—“Principles of Learning and Elements of Trade Teaching.” Jason Ogren—“Planning and Presenting Instructional Material and Using Instructional Technology.” Don Reynolds—“Performance Evaluation and Supervising and Instruction on the Job.” Mike Cooper and Tony Jongresso—“Installing Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems.” Darren Corso, Patrick Panian and Chuck Soderquist—“OSHA Instructional Courses.” David Risser, Rory Berumen and George Nightengale –“Director, Coordinator and Committee Information.” Zarlene De Ruiter—“Voice Data Video Instruction.” Robert Labak—“Welding Instruction.” Orville Roe—“AC Drive Instruction.” Julian “Bull” Taylor—“Coyne First Aid.” Richard Ramirez and Larry O’Neill—“Power Point and Video Production/Multi-Media Presentations.”

It was a pleasure to see the dedication these members have to teaching and the IBEW. Local 68’s apprenticeship is tops. Thumbs up to all. P.S.—Dave Risser learned to use his turn signal.

L.U. 80 (i&o), NORFOLK, VA—The month of July brought change to our local. The membership has elected a new business manager/ financial secretary in Matthew W. Yonka.

Bus. Mgr. Yonka looks forward to the challenges ahead as he works to steer Local 80 into the future. Matt and the membership would like to thank our former business manger, Bruce Woolridge, for his years of service to the local. Matt’s first official business was to appoint Lee Norton organizer and Dave Schaeffer assistant business manger.

We also thank all the brothers and sisters who came to help make the Ford shutdown a success.

Summer Outings

L.U. 86 (ees,em,es,i,rts&spa), ROCHESTER, NY—Our local had a busy summer. Let’s hope the drought is over for a while. We had our annual Local 86 picnic with over 1,000 members, family and friends attending. A special thank you goes out to Joyce Wagstaff for once again putting it all together.

We also had our annual clam bake. Thank you, Cathy Voros, Don Peters and Mike Cook for another successful party.

We would also like to thank an “anonymous retiree” for donating our new gas grill. We used it for our picnic after the Labor Day parade.

Local 86 extends condolences to the families of Bros. Gordon D. Williamson and Michael R. Volpe, who recently passed away. They will be missed.
