Despite continuing high unemployment, the utility industry still faces an imminent jobs crunch, as baby boomer linemen reach retirement age without enough younger workers to take their place.
IBEW Utility Department Director Jim Hunter recently spoke with Bill Loveless, host of Platts Energy Week – a Washington, D.C.-based TV program – on the skilled worker shortage and what steps industry leaders and lawmakers can take to alleviate the problem.
