Mobile technology is becoming one of hottest fields in telecommunications, and the National Coalition for Telecommunications Education and Learning can help advance your career in this growing discipline. It is now offering a mobile technology program, covering voice and smart-phones, as well as new emerging wireless technologies. Students can get either a certificate or associate degree – all online.

NACTEL, in partnership with Pace University, offers online telecom degrees and certificates and is now accepting applications for spring 2011.

The online classes are meant to fit busy schedules and can done from anywhere with Internet access.

The deadline for the early spring semester, which starts in January, is December 15. Registration for the late spring semester, which starts in March, ends February 9.

The NACTEL program is designed to help both veteran and new telecom workers get the training they need to help meet the growing demand for highly-skilled workers – including cable splicing technicians, switching and transport installers and repairers and wireless and broadband experts – in the telecommunications industry.

Students can get certified in video technology, wireless networking and networking telecommunications.

More advanced degrees are also available. NACTEL offers a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications technology, which gives students a firm grounding in every aspect of the industry.

Degrees are fully accredited and sponsored by industry and union leaders, including the IBEW.

Says Cathy Hall, executive director of technical training for AT&T:

The NACTEL curriculum is an excellent way to support our employees in their career growth, and the online format is an ideal way for work/life balance.

In addition to class readings and online discussions, students are responsible for a variety of hands-on projects.  Says Scott Bates, director of marketing for NACTEL:

They end up doing everything from soldering their own phone to doing at-home chemistry experiments.

Discounted tuition is available to all IBEW members. Financial aid through your employer may also be available.
