The tentative agreement reached late last month between the IBEW and Amtrak was ratified on October 18th by a vote of 336 in favor and 295 against.  The agreement, which is retroactive back to June 1st, 2010, covers approximately 1300 IBEW Electrical Workers nationwide – represented by IBEW Railroad System Council No. 7, and approximately 20 Amtrak Supervisors in the Northeast – represented by IBEW Local 1573.  The 5 year agreement provides for wage increases of approximately 15% over its term and caps employee cost sharing on Health and Welfare premiums.

“I wish to commend System Council 7 General Chairman Mike Giansante and Local 1573 General Chairman John MacDonald for the fine job they did in securing this agreement for their members,” stated IBEW International President Ed Hill.  “After the 8 year battle fought during the last round of bargaining, to get an agreement in just under ten months, and with the terms provided for in this agreement, is quite an accomplishment.”

To date, approximately 58% of Amtrak’s agreement-covered employees are now covered by new collective bargaining agreements

A complete copy of the agreement can be accessed by visiting the Railroad Dept. page of this website.
