Construction Workers Tell Obama: ‘We Can’t Wait’ for Keystone XL Jobs
November 7, 2011 The Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO has launched a new campaign encouraging President Obama to take action on good construction jobs by supporting the Keystone XL pipeline project.
The proposed $7 billion project would transport unrefined petroleum from the oil sands of northern Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico, creating an estimated 20,000 private sector positions. Using a combination of print and online ads, along with social media and Internet petitions, the building trades are encouraging project supporters to help the campaign go viral. Building Trades President Mark Ayers wrote on Huffington Post:
Not only will Keystone stimulate more than $20 billion in new spending for the economy, it will help reduce our country’s dependency on Middle East oil. Says IBEW International President Edwin D. Hill:
It is currently under review at the U.S. State Department, with a final decision expected by the end of the year. Go to www.getamericabuilding.com to tell Obama to support the Keystone XL pipeline.
