IBEW leaders announced July 13 that they negotiated a one-year contract extension with AT&T. The agreement covers more than 7,000 members in Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and the Northwest.

“We think this is a good deal for our members,” said Kevin Curran, International Representative for the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Department:

Every telecommunications company right now seems to be looking for significant diminishments in wages, benefits and pensions for their employees. This extension agreement ensures that our members have the security of knowing that they are protected for the next year.

IBEW members covered by the AT&T contract include members of System Council T-3, which is comprised of members from Downers Grove, Ill., Local 21; Chicago Local 134; East Windsor, N.J., Local 827; San Francisco Local 1269; Philadelphia Local 1944; Boston Local 2222; Springfield, Mass., Local 2324; and Worcester, Mass., Local 2325.

The extension will be in effect until June 22, 2013.
