VERIZON WORKERS IN NORTHEAST RATIFY AGREEMENT

Odctober 19, 2012

Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, upstate New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have ratified the collective bargaining agreement reached on September 19 with Verizon.  The agreement covers some 12,500 IBEW members in those states.

“This has been an arduous process to reach a reasonable agreement with Verizon,” said IBEW International president Edwin D. Hill.  “Our members faced difficult choices, but in the end stood together to protect the integrity of the collective bargaining process and our ability to protect good, middle-class jobs at the company.”

Members of the IBEW and Communications Workers of America (CWA) struck for nearly two weeks in August 2011. Following the strike, both unions agreed to return to work and extend the expired contract pending further negotiations.
