LUCENT
TECHNOLOGIES AND THE CWA AND IBEW
AGREE TO EXTEND NEGOTIATIONS ONE WEEK
Washington
D.C. --- Lucent Technologies and the Communications Workers of
America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
(IBEW) today announced that they will extend their negotiations
over their collective bargaining agreements one week to midnight,
Sunday Nov. 7. The current contracts expire at midnight on
Oct. 31.
Negotiators
from the three parties have been meeting regularly since Oct.
7 in Washington, D.C. The company and the unions still
have several critical issues open and have agreed that continuing
their negotiations will provide additional time to more fully
explore alternatives to the difficult and complex issues at the
bargaining table.
The
negotiations will continue to be conducted under the auspices
of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, an independent
U.S. government agency whose mission is to preserve and promote
labor-management peace and cooperation.
This is a joint press release from
Lucent Technologies, IBEW and CWA.
