A Hall Named Hill

January/February 2003 IBEW Journal

Only standing room was available at the regular monthly meeting when Beaver, Pennsylvania, Local 712 displayed its great pride in its favorite son with a proclamation rededicating its building as the Edwin D. Hill Complex.

International President Hill, who began his IBEW career at Local 712 in 1956, and members of his family were on hand for the August event, as were International Secretary-Treasurer Jerry O’Connor and Third District International Vice President Donald Siegel. Local 712 President John Kochanowski presented a joint proclamation of the Local 712 Executive Board and the Building Trustees rededicating the property.

Hill also presented service award pins to six Local 712 members who have achieved 55-year membership, plus eight others with 50 years of service. Hill became business manager of the local in 1970 and served for 12 years before he became an IBEW International Representative and moved on to become Third District International Vice President in 1994 and International Secretary three years later.

In what Business Manager Mike Scott termed a first for the local, its 16 new journeymen had their oath of obligation administered jointly by the International President, International Secretary-Treasurer and International Vice President.
