Active Political Season

Local 6 Bus. Mgr. John J. ORourke

Fritz the IBEW Life Saving Award.

L.U. 6 (c,i,o,st&u), SAN FRANCISCO, CAThe work situation in the city remains stable through the summer and we are optimistic that 2005 will hold steady.

Executive Board member Steve Walsh has accepted the task of Local 6s registrar of voters. We remember all too well what happened almost immediately after George "Dubya" took office last time250 journeyman wiremen out of work on Group I and 80 apprentices unemployed. Bros. Steve Walsh and Ronald Lewis, along with members volunteering the phone banks, will be working tirelessly through this political season to serve our interests.

Retired member Glenn Fritz was recently honored with the IBEW Life Saving Award. Bro. Fritz was attending a function for the Danish Fraternal Lodge in San Francisco when one of the attendees suddenly collapsed. Bro. Fritzs quick response to administer CPR to the victim undoubtedly kept a very serious incident from becoming worse. The officers and members of Denmark #2 wrote to me praising Glenn Fritz for his unselfish act and thanked our local union for the safety training provided to our members. Well done, Glenn.

Bush/Cheney Agenda

L.U. 8 (i&mt), TOLEDO, OHThe last three years have been rough for many members as work has been scarce in Toledo and on the road. Theres hope for the future as work may soon start on another Jeep plant and a coking facility. Its optimistic but we may see full employment by next spring or summer.

The jobs arent here yet but if they do develop I wont give George Bush any credit for it. In fact George would rather see these jobs go south of the border or to China since most of them will be good paying union jobs.

The Bush/Cheney agenda is to make working people struggle to survive while continuing to cut taxes for the wealthy. Their agenda is also to weaken unions and if possible to destroy them, as their hero Ronald Reagan did to the Air Traffic Controllers union in 1981. All union members, their families and retirees should remember this when they vote in November.

Local 8 held elections in June. Our new president is Joe Cousino and vice-president is Dan Martin. New to the Executive Board is Dan Lewandowski and to the Examining Board, John Solly. Congratulations to all those elected.

Help Stop the Madness

Local 20 Bus. Mgr. Goober

Martin Frost (D-Texas), who
spoke at a retirees rally
hosted by the local.

L.U. 20 (em,i,mt,o,spa,t&u), DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX"Texas politics, not for the squeamish"that is the attitude in Local 20. Recently, the local hosted a well-attended retirees rally where U.S. Rep. Martin Frost (D-Texas) spoke on the need to put Democratic leadership back in the White House. Help stop the madnessvote Kerry for president. God bless our troops around the world.

Our work picture is slowly improving. We have several large Inside and Outside projects scheduled to begin construction in our jurisdiction in late 2004 and in 2005. We hope our contractors will be the successful bidders on a large portion of this work.

OSHA 10-hour courses are now being scheduled on a regular basis through the joint efforts of Local 20 and NECA. We believe the OSHA 10-hour certification will be an industry standard in the near future. Get ahead of the curve and get certified.

A near unanimous vote to adopt the IBEW Seventh District Organizing Plan passed during a specially called meeting earlier this year. The local is dedicated to organizing our jurisdiction, and we expect great things to come out of this new pilot program.
